Using iTunes 4.1 and Panther, burning a music CD hung on the "finishing" message in the status bar. Waited 20 minutes, and then tried to force-quit, but system completely unresponsive.... no mouse click or keystroke was recognized.

So I used the Interrupt button on my mini-tower, and now the CD is stuck in teh drive. No icon for the CD appears in the sidebar, nor in iTunes

So far I tried to get it out by:

1)Eject button on keyboard and in iTunes

2)Restarting holding the mouse button down. No effect. I'm using MS's Intellimouse Explorer.... could that be why this didn't work?

3)Using Open Firmware (system hung again after the "eject cd" command)

4) the paper clip method, but I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly. I see a hole for the zip drive, but not for the CD drive. I can get a paper clip in the left side seam, but it slides in too easily-- no resistance.

Any other ideas? Perhaps a cmomand in the terminal? Thanks!

PS: Posting this in hardware forum also in case I have to open the case. Posted here to explore software/system related solutions.....

Or the mouse button if you don't have an eject button.

Try this with an Apple mouse. Should eject the disk.

Tried this and also the eject button again.

Still nothing.... it must really be jammed in there, altho' I don't know how that could happen when it burned the disk and then hung only afterwards.

Do I have to take my Mac into a repair shop? Please say no! :-)
