My iPod g3 recently crapped out on me, and while this is certainly to be expected, I've had it for about a year and a half, I'd still like to try to save it before I just forget about it and get a new one.

Basically, the ipod is not recognized at all in the source window of itunes. Both itunes, and my software are up to date. I've tried restoring it to factory settings and still, it isn't recognized in the source window, is there anything else I may be able to do to save it?

Is the iPod itself dead? Nothing on the screen, no booting, or is it just not being recognized by the computer?

the ipod is actually working fairly normally. The battery life is fine, and when it isn't plugged in I can scroll through it as if nothing was wrong, however, itunes just doesn't recognize it. (My computer does recognize it however.) I'm going to try a friends computer in a little while to see if maybe it's an issue with my comp, but I'm not too sure.

i'm using firewire. I tried a usb today at a friends house and had no luck also, however, on my friends computer, it displayed the "found new hardware" message, it just didn't display in itunes.

Have you tried using the iPod Updater to reinstall the software back to factory settings? If not, do so.

Are you trying this with a PC? You MUST install the PC driver software before iTunes for Windows can see the iPod.
