I don't see why everyone here seems to bash SpyMac when you get:
A combined 375 MB of space, divided into 100 MB for your web site, 250 MB for your image gallery, and 25 MB for emails. Easy creation of your own blog and/or forums included. And, of course, a predominantly friendly community of 35,000+. And its all for FREE!
This puts Apple's .Mac to shame! And it's free! How do they finance this? Surely not through advertising alone? What's so bad about it that everyone here bashes it for?

[Along with this website] I go to SpyMac.com every day and it's a joy. Yes A LOT of people can be ignorant and downright silly, but so can I so I guess it works out.
Also those features are new with the release of SpyMac 3 last week, so many lashings might have to do with the previous version of the website.

Well SpyMac came about because of a bate and switch move, I wouldn't put it pass them again.
How can you give out that much space and not be losing money? Do they plan on no one using their space?

Sorry that should be "bait" not "bate", and I meant they might start charging for it in the future.

If you click the little "Edit" button right above your post, you can correct mistakes after posting.

I am aware of that, It is just I hit the back button twice and got a double post. I thought I could save grace this way by editing the DP.
But I guessed wrong.

I have an account there for the space and image hosting. E-mail is very nice as well. I enjoy viewing the member gallery as well. But the forums is ridiculous -- I don't think I've met a straight guy there thats over the age of 14.

Very very cool offer.. I wonder where the capital comes from...
I would not be surprised if made it a pay service in a year
after all, that's what Apple did.

From the thread on spymac:
haha.
There are no secrets. We plan to make money from the auctions, paid hosting, shop and advertising.
The plan is that those services will at least make the site break even.
Sure that worked wonders for the ISP I worked for. And we had PAID dialup-clients as well.
I will now restate what I already said in the other thread: The owners are too young to remember the dotcom-bust.

It's your lucky day! I am both straight and well over 14. Heh, and yeah a LOT of people there are gay...it's alittle overwhelming and sometimes annoying if they start posting pictures of half-naked men.

Having run a similar service before, I had a laugh riot with this one. Expect Spymac to kill the free service within months.

That's still not bait and switch, and neither was the iTools->.Mac transition.
Bait and Switch is when you advertise a product you don't even have. When the customers come in you coerce them to buy a more expensive, different product.
If you went to SpyMac and signed up, and they said "Well, we don't really have a free account, but for $10/month we have one with 500MB of space", then that would be bait and switch.
