It might sound like a silly question but say tomorrow Japan/Germany/Whoever announces that they will mine the moon for every worthwhile mineral and they plan on setting up military bases, hotels and Condos.

Can other nations object? How would the land be divided? Does the US think they own it because they were the first to walk on it? Does the USSR's space probs count as first to the moon?

it is interesting but I wonder how valid it is. I mean say 100 years from now if they want to buy a condo on the land do they really need to get the landowners permission?

It's not visible from this side, but if you were to have a look at the far side of the moon, you'd see my signature.

I'm a bit miffed the astronauts "forgot" to mention that little detail, actually...
