I'm new to the forum and am in need of some advice. I mistakenly deleted a folder (my precious picture folder) and need to know if it can be recovered somehow. I just bought an external harddrive as a backup but had yet to transfer stuff. If anyone has any advice, ( besides "what a stupid thing to do"), I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Step one: Don't do anything!

What I mean by that is that something isn't really deleted until it's overwritten with something else, so the less you muck around, the greater the chance you will be able to recover something.

Step two: I've had good luck with FileSalvage, but I'm sure there are other programs that will undelete things.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Yeah, don't do anything. It's best to boot up into firewire transfer mode and use another Mac to work on yours. You don't want some stupid cache files taking place of your pictures...

Thanks for the tips, yes I think I did trash them, believing I had the right folder and actually deleting the wrong one. I'll try the suggestions mentioned and will let ya know what happens. Wish me luck!

I believe that what_the_heck was implying that if you put them in the trash, but did not empty it they might still be sitting in there.
