Is it possible to keep my 15" dvi 800mhz powerbook running closed while attached to an external monitor via dvi? I basically want to use the pb while travelling, but at home want to "dock" the pb and use it as a desktop replacement. i don't really need the extra screen space, so i'd prefer to have it closed and conserve desk space. is this possible? and are there specific settings that i need to use? thanks!!

Your Powerbook will run closed, but you'll be interupting the airflow somewhat, and making the unit run hotter.
Unless you REALLY have to, I wouldn't suggest it. Keeping your computer as cool as possible is a good way to help extend it's life.

Simply connect a keyboard and mouse and the PB will Automaticly, when closed, default to use the external monitor only. I do it all the time and have had no heat issues.

Correct, here's exactly how to do it:
Close your PB, let it go to sleep.
Connect an external display and an external mouse/keyboard.
Tap the space bar & watch your PB come alive on the external display.

and then if you are really worried about heat, you can open the lid on the powerbook slightly letting it vent, and it will still only display on the main monitor

Hi
I have the 800 Dvi as well. I use it 24/7 closed with a 23" cinema display. If I hear it going nuts with the fans, I just open it and let it vent normally. I do keep a piece of paper over the keys when it's closed so they don't hurt the screen too.
