For $29 from the education store, I can't see how it would be worth it NOT to.

Yes, I've pre-ordered it, but I still can't use iPhoto for anything substantial.

If iPhoto 4 and GarageBand turn out to be worth getting, then I'll buy it with the edu. discount. If not, then why should I? I already have iTunes, iPhoto 2 (sucky, though), and iMovie, plus I don't need iDVD.
Be cool to have the box on my shelf though.

Just gonna pick it up from the Apple Store when they have. Not big into preordering, I can usually get it quicker at the Apple Store in Northridge or The Grove.

Personally, I'm waiting to see if iPhoto and iMovie are made available separately at a (much) reduced price - GarageBand and iDVD have no attraction for me as I simply don't have the hardware to run them. I don't see why I should have to pay for these two apps when I will never be able to use them. I'm also a bit disgusted at Apple for not making iPhoto a free upgrade at the least as it is arguably the equivalent of the 10.0 to 10.1 release - 10.0 was functional but too slow and 10.1 was provided for free because of this. iPhoto 2 is functional but (arguably) far too slow for many so iPhoto '04 should be a free upgrade in the same vein as 10.1.

hmmm the edu store has iLife at 30, I dont really see Apple selling iMovie, iPhoto for what 10? If these were seperate products and Apple were a normal company then they would all be 25 each, heck iDVD would cost a load...

I always thought that these apps were sort of a value-added bonus for being on the Mac platform, so I find it a bit annoying that Apple is changing the rules suddenly so that they're no longer free (remember iTools?).

I preordered...the edu price is a steal. GarageBand and the speed improvements to iPhoto alone are worth it, IMO.

I have been dreaming of a program like Garageband forever. I haven't been this excited about a program in a very long time.

Not everyone pays academic pricing. $50 is a bit of a stretch for what would amount to an update to iPhoto for me. I could care less about new features in iTunes. It does what I need.

They are, if you are buying a new Mac. Apple is a corporation first, so their first goal is to make money. It's a little like drug dealers, they hook you up with free samples, then you have to pay.

They're never free. The cost is just built into other things like the price of a new Mac. Can't lower Mac prices unless Apple cuts costs, probably why they're getting rid of all the 3rd party resellers.

At least when iLife was released last year, the only thing you really had to pay for was iDVD. I thought the other programs came in via Software Update. Hopefully, they'll do the same again, but I bought mainly to update iDVD and to get GarageBand. GB looks very cool, and I alerady have Soundtrack.

I remember that iMovie was never free until Mac OS X 10.0 shipped and I guess Apple felt as though they needed to give us something extra.
At any rate, I am not going to buy iLife, I am going to wait for a G5 update or something to happen.

Pre-ordered the Family Edition (two computers).
iPhoto will be worth it. GarageBand will be the bonus.

I preordered on the 6th.
I'm in Canada and I noticed the Apple Store cancelled my order for iLife-USA and swapped it for iLife-INT. I guess that's an international version that may not be from current inventory. I think I may be waiting for a while. It's sitting on 'open' status for before/after the 15th so it may be pushed back later today.
