I know, but I keep looking all over the iMac for one, and it seems they forgot to put one on mine.

Get a usb floppy for the imac. If the LC III has one, then a usb floppy for the imac should work.

Option 1:

Ethernet card for LC III

Option 2:

Ethernet to LocalTalk transceiver

The caveat with both these methods is that if you don't have an older OS X version lying around, you might have trouble getting the LC III and the OS X machine to talk to each other without AppleTalk (although you might be able to rig something up using SheepShaver on the OS X side).

Option 3:

USB or FireWire to SCSI adapter + DB-25 to IDC-50 adapter to attempt to connect the LC's hard drive directly to the Mac. Disclaimer: I have no idea if this will actually work!

Option 4:

USB floppy drive.

edit: Curses! Beaten (to Option 4, at least) by Cold Warrior.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...AAC3ZJG2C9H6VF AND Amazon.com: TEAC 1.44MB USB External Floppy Disk Drive (Black): Electronics

should do the job. The disks are IBM formatted, if you don't want to bother there are unformatted ones for $4.25 more, also from Verbatim.

Oops, too late BTW, my LC III had the floppy right in front.

There is an extension for DOS disk support (PC Exchange, or Apple File Exchange) so if you compressed the files ala zip or StuffIt you could use a PC( shudder) to read the floppies since they're 1.44 disks.

An LC EtherNet adapter is your best bet. Ethernet cards for the LC were plentiful in its day. A SCSI to FW/USB adapter will likely be more expensive and problematic. The internal HD was SCSI.

Yeah, the one catch with Ethernet though is that it might be hard to get the LC III to use anything other than AppleTalk, which Snow Leopard doesn't support.

edit: Actually, now that I think of it again, there's at least one foolproof way to do it. If all else fails, you can just enable either SSH or FTP on the OS X machine, and use an SFTP or FTP client on the LC III to transfer the files. You'll have to compress them with StuffIt first to avoid mangling resource forks, but other than that it should work.
