Hello,

I am curious to see if the stereotypes out there are consitent. I don't know many but I heard that Mac users are mostly pot smokers.

Unlike Clinton, I don't think I have exhaled yet... The thing is though, I was a heavy drinker before switching to Macs. Coincidence? I don't know.

What are some other stereotypes out there and where do you stand?

Cheers.
Have a nice day!

Well, I'm a Mac user and I don't smoke up. Don't drink, either.

The most common stereotype I know if is that all Mac users are rabid fanatics that can't handle reason or logic when it comes to computer comparisons.

Hmm... I don't know about that one.

The biggest stereotype that bugs me is that Mac users are newbies that don't know much about computers. They can't possibly fathom that experts would choose to use a Macintosh.

I also think the most common stereotypes include that Mac users are raving fanatics about thier platforms and that we only use them because we're "too stupid" to use Pee Cee's. The "too stupid" argument always gets me, it's like reverse logic. Like saying "If you don't use the more difficult platform and OS then you're a "wimp". I look at it like this; if I could snap my finger and dinner instantly appears then why go out, buy food and cook?

I don't preach about using the Mac, and because I've used Pee Cee's before (used to own two of 'em before my first Mac) I do have a basis for comparrison.

I think the IT pro's hate Macs especially because they might actually lose thier jobs if everyone went Mac.

I drank more when using Windows too. It was the best way to get games to look and feel more realistic without buying yet another graphics card update. Play Return To Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer on a fast PC with a glass of whisky and coke and you'll see what I mean. Awesome.

Drinking also made the fonts anti-aliased before Cleartype.

I guess I fit your stereotype. I smoke. Drink too. I am sure just as many windows, linux, Be, *nix users smoke too. It's just a % of the general populace. But I would say more arts'y people use macs, and among arts'y people the % that smoke is higher. So in a way I guess I can see where this could come from....never really seen it myself.

Do not drink
Can not drink
Do not smoke
Can not smoke

[Heck I'm too young anyway , who wants those nasty things?!]

I like using apple computers, they actually do what I want them to do

I hate apple support, and get annoyed by The Steve Jobbs Opera every 6 months at macworlds.

Otherwise, i'm 15, I've used PCs since I was 7, and even younger than that (though I didn't own one before that), and don't think I classify as a newbie (by far).

Once you've gotten down the main basics of a major OS, you can normally understand any OS, using windows is like using a standard shift car for some reason, but DOS is quite similar to unix, minus a few commands.

But this is just coming from a person who has used 'pretty much everything out there'

When people think of mac stereotypes they always think of the people who tell everyone to get macs. Funny enough any time I hear of a mac user having problems with his/her old mac everyone tells him/her to get a PC.

Yet that's where all the problems begin, yes apple is a crappy company with worse tech support, but they have some damn sweet products, and their machines operate NICEly, I have a unix server my *n?x freak friends drool all over

whatever

Here's one...

Mac users aren't coordinated enough to handle a two-button mouse. Apple seems to think so too since all of their branded mice are of the one-button variety. Silly since OSX supports 2+wheel

The one that I get most often is that Macs are just toys, not real computers.

So you admit you're a 'Mac Zealot'? and you must have had one hell of a paper-round owning a pc at 7, or maybe you killed a bus full of nuns and pc-ownership was your punishment.

I have a wacom. best damn mouse money can buy and hey! I can draw stuff with this here pen like thing!

I highly suggest buying a graphire. they kick ass and there not small either. I jsut find myself with the tablet at a 90 degree angle to me, so like up on the screen is right to me. kinda odd, I dont know why i do that.

And uhhh the only stereotype I have heard is that macs dont have many games and I say "true" but I dont play games I like to DO things, not waste away playing dumb ass games. I guess that it not a stereotype though.

as for me, i'm a mac user and i don't drink or smoke.

One thing i've noticed -- at my college, most of the mac users in the computer labs here are rather hopeless when it comes to computers of any varitey. They don't know how to log out, how to restart, or do anything besides instant message, type something in word, or surf the internet. As a result there's usually a room full of frozen B&W G3s, and the mac users head over to the Dells.

I saw a nifty article on that once. Basically, if the business world switched over to Macs you would need 3/4 less IT "professionals" and 3/4 less IT technicians.

If you have 500 Macs you can manage all 500 with only 2 people. I know because I worked as a computer support specialist for a number of highschools. With 500 PCs... good luck.

True...

As well: i actually dreamed of having a computer before then, I built one out of cardboard, just as a toy

PC's are more toyish than macs since they have a fisher price interface and so many games they take on toys better than macs any day

I'm a PC user....have been for over 9 years (I have to say it like that, its part of my buggy 12 step program). MAC users are not the only ones with stereotypes. I bet you have one or two for me. I enjoy PC's cause they challenge me. When the 'Gates' of hell comes crashing down on me I take the time to learn why and how to fix it. Several thousands of crashes later after 9 years....I consider myself pretty knowledgeable. When was the last time a MAC crashed 4 times in one day. I guess a stereotype would be that alot of MAC users dont really know their OS enough to fix it properly.

Now that I got that off my chest....I can move on to step 8
