Ok, so this is tremendously annoying. When I boot up 10.6 (did a fresh install when it was released) it does not "enable" a whole bunch of fonts, I go into Font Book and I can enable them and all is well, but on restart it resets. I have had it resolve the duplicates too, but on reboot they reappear again.

A new symptom is that when I go to enable all of the fonts again it will do that but then systematically with the gear spinning in the lower left disable them all one by one.

I have Office installed which I know creates a lot of duplicates, though 10.5 didn't seem to care, and I also have Suitcase Fusion, but I don't have it handle system fonts so unless there is a known issue with it -- though they say it is 10.6 compat.

What is going on?

Well, I think I have fixed it -- it seems as though Suitcase was actually taking control of the system fonts and it did not activate all the system fonts by default. Odd. I don't remember it having as good, if one wants to call it that, integration with Font Book or system fonts -- maybe the 10.6 compat version changed the workflow a bit or maybe they had to change the way to new Font Book deals with stuff.
