I'm think of ordering an ibook 12" with Superdrive from MCE.

Does anyone have any good/bad experience with it? Does it void the Applecare?

Thanks!

It doesn't void your warranty since MCE is an authorized Apple Service Center. The drive is covered by MCE's 1 year warranty but not Apple's. If you get Applecare everything but your Superdrive will be covered.

It looks like the MCE DVD burner is only 1X; that's half the speed of the SuperDrive in the PowerBook G4.

Good point. It might also be a safe point so that Apple doesn't decide it wants to stop them.

what if the superdrive breaks? Will your local apple store or compusa fix it or replace it, or are you limited to MCE?

You are limited to MCE. This is not an Apple authorized part.
