anyone know if the 20" iMac with iSight and 1.5GB RAM is a suitable computer to run Aperture? I know the specs are high, but if it won't run smooth, it's not worth the money for me, and I don't know if Apple will have trials or demos.

We'll know next week, as Aperture just started shipping.

My guess is the latest iMac will NOT be smooth with Aperture, at least if you start stacking several effects, because of the iMac's lower-mid-range GPU and its single CPU. Recommended are dual G5s and a faster GPU.

I hope to see Aperture on display on iMacs in a few weeks though, just so I can see for myself how (un)smooth it is.

P.S. You might want to check out the Applications forum. There is a thread about Aperture there.

The compatibility checker Apple posted says it will run but it doesn't say anything about how well it will run. Somewhere I saw a post that it runs "acceptably" on the newer Powerbooks so I think it will be fine on the new iMac.

But as Eug says, I'm sure we'll hear this week.
