Just curious, anyone know if the 750Gb Seagate will fit (physically) in an Intel iMac?

Nobody told me about this! I hope nobody buys this because there's no price competition yet. Once manufacturers adopt perpendicular recording, capacity will go up and price will go down.

Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but all desktop internal hard drives are the same form factor: 3.5". It's an industry standard.

I've ordered one - just waiting for a spare weekend and I'll do the surgery. Shame it will only format to 680Gb but you can't have everything.

I've wondered if anyone has tried one of the WD Raptor 10000 RPM drives in an iMac and if it makes any differance, BTW how hard is it to open the iMac for a HD swap?

It would probably make a huge difference, but a lot of noise. Somebody should try it.

Very easy. Just unscrew 3 screws, lift the cover off, and you've got access to the HDD.

Thats true for the original G5 iMac, but since it got redesigned and had the iSight built in, its a sealed unit unless you want to disassemble the whole thing. With the new ones, you have to take the front facing off, then the screen out, then you have access to the motherboard. A Japanese site took one apart not long after the iSight iMac was released.
Taking apart an iSight iMac
For the original G5, as said above, you take the back off and its all there...

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Oh wow I didn't know about that. I have a G5 iMac so I wouldn't know about the Intel ones.
