Apparently Alex Jones thinks the government might have weather weapons:

Alex Jones pushes tornado truther theory: ‘There’s weather weapon stuff going on’ | The Raw Story

I'm fascinated by this world. It seems like a path to madness in imagining things that might be conspiracies and then looking for evidence to back this up (or else simply embracing shaky evidence). I'm sure there are conspiracy theorists of all kinds (e.g. 9/11 being a hoax) so let's not make this into a liberals or conservatives rah rah meow meow thread, but have any of you guys sort of looked at these sorts of conspiracy theories and were tempted to buy into them? Does buying into one sort of lead you into buying into other things? How do people come up with this stuff? Or, is it just an attention getting gimmick?

If anyone could control the weather, the US government would be likeliest. In which case, the US would get uniformly predictable weather, while our opponents would get disasters. No hurricane Sandy, etc.

So Iran would get bad weather, and North Korea would have problems too. Come to think of it, NK got torrential floods last year. And Iran did get some serious earthquakes recently.

Got it. The weather controls only work in Western Asia, and the earthquake controls only work in the middle east. Meteorite weapons work over central Russia (northern Asia). Looks like they have everything covered.

American citizens have had access to weather weapons for quite some time. I myself have wielded one with great success as a young soldier.

Alex Jones is a contemptible pr!ck who sells fear to stupid people in exchange for advertising dollars. Snake oil salesmen have more morals.

Well you don't know that, he could actually believe in these conspiracy theories. He certainly comes across as convinced that they are true.

I don't think it makes any difference whether he believes in these conspiracy theories or not. He sells fear. Whether he believes those fears are justified is irrelevant. Lots of snake oil salesmen (like homeopathists and Scientologists) believe in their own BS.

What's the difference between ill-intended selling of something vs. genuine self-expression?

If what you're selling is abject nonsense, nothing.

What is and isn't nonsense is a subjective thing.

Riiiight, the subjectivity of nonsense is totally relevant when talking about a guy who blogs about The Greys, weather weapons, and Sandy Hook as a false flag operation.

You're missing my point.

He may believe the stuff he is saying, so therefore to him he isn't peddling snake oil, and therefore to him he is simply expressing his viewpoints.

There is nothing with that, but we are also free to belittle and mock his viewpoints as our form of self-expression too.

It could be worse. At least he's not selling banking/financial services and insurance.

Do you ever smile or enjoy life's simpler pleasures or are you always an 11 on the 1-10 scale of intensity? It's Memorial Day weekend for crying out loud. Not even Alex Jones can take that away from you.

Yes I smile. But I don't come here to smell the flowers, but to rip out the weeds, if you catch my drift.
