With the release of the new iPod Shuffle, I've come to the conclusion that Apple has a love/hate relationship with the Greek language. If it's an (relatively) easy thing to do, they'll do it, but anything more complicated, and no.

They included Greek as an interface option since the 5th generation iPod, but the iPhone and iPod Touch don't even have native keyboard support for Greek. The iPhone is sold in Greece, yet Greeks have no way to send SMS or emails in Greek with Greek characters (and Greeklish is no solution). Now they add text-to-speech capabilities in Greek to the new Shuffle.

End users have produced a Greek localization package for Mac OS X that puts the "official localization" (by Rainbow Computers) to shame. The "official localization" is only available to people purchasing higher priced versions of already overpriced machines (European pricing). Apparently, Greeks only need localization of the Finder and System Preferences. If you don't know English you're screwed beyond that.

End users have produced a Greek localization for the iPhone and iPod touch that requires a jailbroken device. Runs beautifully.

Apple could just use their efforts to begin with, and then bring the rest of the localization in house like they have done with Russian.

C'mon Apple, make a decision! Either fully support Greek or don't. Stop this half-assed "support" here and there.

Apple doesn't care about you and your frat brothers. Go have a social with some sorority girls.
