I'm confused... why would they be passing off a painting as an actual, in-game screenshot?
Man alive, amazing... pretty amazingly scary, too. Yeesh, gruesome.

Resident Evil Remake and 0 wasn't all that scary to me but this is looking to be the real deal.

It looks great but I really hate how the other games played. Silent hill 2 is much better.

Here's interesting info about Resident Evil 4:
------------------------------
http://www.majorlocke.com/v4/re4scans.php
<long paragraph snipped>
'Up until now, all the games in the Resident Evil series have been about surprise. An enemy has jumped out; you aim at it, shoot it, and kill it. What I'm going for with this game is a more 'humanistic' fear, which comes from the enemies not being 100% zombies, they actually have human characteristics. And because they are smart, they will try to trick you and trap you. As you proceed through the game, about halfway through the enemies start to become very, very smart. And what happens is you'll shoot one, and instead of continuing to approach you like an idiot, it will realize you have a gun and are shooting at it. It will run away. So you may chase after it, and if you do, you will see that is has intentionally brought you into an area where there are five or six of them lined up with bowguns aimed to ambush you. Them being able to trick you and trap you brings in a whole new kind of fear. Also, since the enemies look more like humans, it makes it more realistic. The closer it is to reality, the closer it is to being truly scary'.

Should be good

Dunno, all the Res Evil games I've played were pretty underwhelming. Except Code Veronica... wait... that one was underwhelming as well.
Bet it sucks.

I'm very disappointed by these screenshots.
I was really excited by the first preview movie they revealed in a dark castle-like building with mysterious phantom creatures and all.
This one looks like a generic shoot-em'all type of game you find everywhere nowadays.
Gore gets old really fast, you know.
Silent Hill 4, on the other hand, has blown my mind away.
I'll still get RE 4, but I can't say that I'm excited about it as I was before.

Kiddie console ?
HAH !
Inferior hardware ?
HAH!!!!!
not a good gaming experience ?
HAH !!!!
and it's still cheaper to produce, and smaller than the other and looks much cooler.
Cheers.
P.S.>>and this isnt even the GM build of the game. this fellow MacNNers looks like a quality product. lots of effort and dedication to make the 'look' great hopefully gameplay will be just as good. Just goes to show you what 8 texture units can accomplish as opposed to 4.

being that RE is my favorite game series EVER i'm very excited for this game
along w/ the pictures some awesome info leaked from spong
Capcom is the latest victim of what is becoming a convenient pattern within the games industry for leaking information well in advance of embargo dates. This time, the hotly-anticipated GameCube exclusive Resident Evil 4 has been totally exposed, with the entire game laid bare for inspection.
First up, the game's inherent presentation will be changed for the first time. There will be a choice of three views, a distant over-shoulder third-person view, a closer over-shoulder third-person view and, amazingly, a first-person view - quite astonishing news.
Another significant change in the basic structure of the game comes with the news that the entire game will be powered by the game engine in real-time. There will be no FMV and, thankfully, the tedious door animations, something of a trademark for the series, have been scrapped.
In slightly more vague news, the levels are said to be more expansive and less on rails, which, again, is a dramatic shift in focus for Capcom. There will be more of an element of exploration in the game, similar to that seen in titles such as Silent Hill, indicating not only an evolution for the series, but a dramatic up-scaling of production values.
The 'tank' control method will remain unchanged, a move that will no doubt cause endless debate amongst the Biohazard faithful. However, given the new view-point, this is a rather canny move by Capcom. The game will take on a new, almost FPS feel, though the way it is controlled will remain essentially unchanged, meaning that players of earlier incarnations will feel immediately comfortable with RE4, despite it's radical presentation redesign. This should also see newcomers to the series able to hit the ground running, recognising a well-established control method.
meaning that shots like ...
are in realtime...
christ i can't wait
and i bet this OUTSIDE type area is just that, an area, i'm sure we'll see Mr. Kennedy roaming a dark castle/mansion.

If THIS is what the cube is capably of.....drooolll....im perfectly content with my investment and see it lasting another 2 years. I cant wait for that engine to be used in future titles from Capcom and other GameCube developers. It just keeps getting beeter ppl...

Screenshots look nice, though that one you posted looks like a render using games models rather than an actual screenshot. To be able to go into a first-person (or is it a over-the-shoulder third-person view?) will be awesome. And hopefully the controls are *the same*. I think I'm the only person who actually likes the controls as they have always been and feel they fit the game perfectly. Though, depending on new gameplay elements, this might not be the case. Still, I'm psychedthis is an automatic "buy game" on my list. No need to rent or test out first. It will be awesome. Of course, I thought that about Star Fox. *cough*

If those are the graphics during actual gameplay and if the gameplay has changed from the first few Res Evil games, then this really looks like the zombie killing game I've been waiting for for quite some time. All of those shots look beyond anything I've seen graphics-wise on any system.

Read the article I posted above. They have lot of great info about controls and how the camera will work.
BTW, look at this picture.. Millions and millions of polygons, detailed particles, very high artificial intelligent, large varies of crispy textures, etc and many going on a screen at 60 FPS? And it's done on a kiddy purple box? Man!!

Hmmm, those must all be cut scenes and the current hardware can hardly do that.

thats funny SWG. we dont really know the limitations of GCN's (or xbox's for that matter) hardware. i remember when people posted shots of Metroid Prime's graphics and they said it must be FMVs.

Actually they're 100% in-game engine. They used almost every juice out of GameCube. This game is one of the few that truly show the power of GameCube's Texture Management (GC can compress/uncompress textures on the fly while other two consoles can't)
The movie posted above is old though. It was a bit before the famous game director Shieki Miyami took over the project. The engine is even more polished now than you saw in the movie.

Yeah, this isn't a Mac game, so it should stay here, like every other post about video games in the damn lounge.
Thanks for the article, Steb! Just read it. Awesome.
60FPS? No waynot with models like that. Capped at 30FPS, most likely, like every other Resident Evil.
Even more psyched about it, now.

I sometimes think about taking my DC out of retirement to replay Code Veronica That was easily the best RE game after the first one. I'm not sure any RE will recapture the magic that RE1 had when it came out almost 8 years ago... Looks nice though.

Holy crap. I would. To be a part of bringing such a gaming experience to gamers worldwide? Hell yeah. The content may not be for everyone (not everyone's going to love any one thing a developer creates) -- it doesn't particularly bother or depress me -- but the experience in creating the content and bringing a story to life would be awesome. Sign me up. Oh, I am signed up.

No, it's completely new. It's basically full third-person now.
I personally never had a problem with the old controlsand I actually liked them and found them fitting.
The new controls in this one should appease the control whiners.
Not that I'm calling you a whiner.

Does it really get better than the original? Does the plot get more complex? Or is there just another super monster waiting to die in the end of this one too?
I remember playing this when it first came out. It scared the **** out of me!

i was just wondering, cause if they had the old controls, that would suck for me, cause i can't play with those controls.
