Hi all,

Often after I have started up/rebooted my MBP I find a folder labelled "Recovered Files" in the trash. Inside it I normally find an iTunes folder with a Temp version of my iTunes library. Same thing with other apps although they are less frequent.

What does this mean? Is there something wrong with the Mac OS X installation?

It means nothing really. You can just empty the trash with those "recovered" files.
