Is almost amongst us.

I was at best ambivalent but now I'm quite excited after seeing the trailers and reading about it. Plus, you've got to give Bryan Cranston a go haven't you?
Anyway would be interested on thoughts re this new attempt to do GZ right which can morph into reviews and comments when it's out.

Have at you.

Trailers look great although they're starting to show too much again. But Godzilla vs flying lizard? Okay, okay.

Some Japanese are complaining that the "US Godzilla" is too fat!

What? Don't they know that Gojira is really just a combination of the Japanese words for gorilla and whale? Probably makes sense that something the size of a few whales needs all that blubber to be buoyant. He still looks bad ass in this clip.

Not yet - heard it was meh.

Too much about the characters, not enough Fat Godzilla carnage.

The movie s*cked.

As sacrilegious as this might sound, i prefer the Godzilla from the late 90s, it was far more entertaining.

EDIT>> Yes, i too thought Godzilla was too 'fat'. There was too much 'people stuff' and not enough 'giant monster stuff'. The biggest disappointment for me was the finale. Brain Cranston was great, too great for this movie, IMHO.

Loved it. There was enough "teasing" throughout that it really built up the monster reveal scenes. The monster fights were awesome - people in the theater were actually laughing and clapping (like in a "holy shit did that just happen?" kind of way). Brain Cranston was great. The only disappointment was no tag at the end of the credits to hint at a sequel.

Weird, everyone I have talked to either loved or hated it and it's about a 50-50 split. Very polarizing.

Is that a sign of a braver movie? Stompy monster fans come away wanting more stumpy monster while others welcome a more intelligent take on these films. After all stumpy monster - all thought and characterisation = cloverfield.

And nobody wants that.

1. I agree tthat he common complaints I hear - needs moar monstars! - make me excited to see the movie. Pacific Rim had lots of monstars and action, but I doubt I will ever want to watch it again.

2. Cloverfield is actually a pretty good little movie. It's entertaining, it's mildly clever, it's got real-world human drama. Honestly, if you have not seen it, or not seen it in quite a while, I suggest you re-watch it. Let me know if you do, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I heard that Walter White dies in the opening credits which is why Godzilla gets all stampy - no more blue meth for him!

I hated Pacific Rim. Sure there were plenty of fight scenes, but they were all so stupid. It's like 95% totally ineffective pro wrestling moves, then right when they're on the brink of death they're all like, "Haha just kidding I had this other super effective weapon the whole time, let me just pull it out now."

Pacific Rim was ridiculous. I hated every second of it.

I'm not even sure I watched the end of it. I think I fell asleep, and the next day asked the husband, "so, in the end did they beat the monster, and the guy got the girl?"

To hell with Godzilla, go see X-Men this weekend. For serious (really). Dinklage alone is worth it.

I saw both movies this weekend. X-Men was the better film.

I didn't think Godzilla was fat but I do believe his head was too small for that body. Seriously, it looked like a witch doctor had shrunk his head or something.

Given that you have Stay Puft Man in your signature, I guess you are right. Be an interesting battle between those two.

Biologically speaking, how could he possibly get food up to his mouth? He should barely be able to turn that head.

Yup. Forgot to check for a thread, but we saw it the first day it was out, in IMAX 3D. Superb visuals. And the movie was OK too. I'm glad to see the franchise rebooted so strongly.
