I'm looking into buying a wireless AP to work into my current network for my new pbook and was wondering what APs people use and what they think of them.

If you have a network where you're transferring large files to local computers, get 802.11g. If you're concerned about security and want WPA, likewise. The weekend papers usually have one brand or another on sale. If you're doing AOL broadband (heaven forbid) you'll be better off with Linksys or Netgear, because Belkin failed miserably when I was helping out a friend and the Netgear was seamless.

Yes, I know that friends don't let friends do AOL, but there you are...

If you just need an 802.11b WAP, the Netgear MR814 is $17 after rebate at amazon.com. Can't beat that?

Personally, I use an Apple Airport Extreme base station. I know that it costs a lot more than a standard 802.11g access point, but it works great for me. Never had any trouble with it and the signal quality is great. I have it set up at one end of my house in my office and the signal quality is still great on my patio with my 15" AlBook, outside, at the other end of my house...between 50 to 60 feet away. Well worth the money in my opinion.

I use a Trendnet TEW-431BRP (using it only as AP) with optional TEW-IA04O
antenna for a PB 12 revB. Works great for me and my neighbour (we share the inet access).
