Today: completely new version of the 23" display. Showing it.
Aluminum enclosure. one piece alumnium stand. Small bevel.

Now talking about Displays. We have the best displays. Our competitors buy panels we reject.

25% increase for IBM. 12% increase for Intel over the same time period.

Now, would like to talk about PowerMacs. Reviewing recent releases. 1.25GHz front side bus.
Addressing the 2.5GHz vs 3GHz promise. Explaining that they shifted from 130nm to 90nm,
but the whole industry hit the wall at 90nm and is a lot harder than people thought.
So the speed increases have been relatively small compared to previous experience.
Still says they are doing well in the industry but less then previously
expected.

New graphics card costs $599. Additional notes. they all share the
one cable out which provides DVI, Firewire, USB.

Also - now - largest display ever. 30" Display. 4.1million pixels.
same one piece alumn enclosure. firewire/usb. only works with PowerMac
since needed a new graphics card. existing cards could not drive it.
needs two dvi connections running in parallel.

Today: completely new version of the 23" display. Showing it.
Aluminum enclosure. one piece alumnium stand. Small bevel. One cable from the monitor
which then splits. Also a 20" display. Same quality/enclosure.
20" - $1299, 23" - $1999. avail next month.

[12:20 PM] Says it will sell for US$3299, that it is 77% bigger than the 23" CD HD, and that it only works with the Power Mac G5. This is, according to Steve, because Apple had to develop a new video card for the unit. Says it requires two cards, but that the two cards will drive two 30" displays. Go figure. Touted the fact that it will drive 8 million pixels with two displays together. Will be available in August. - posted by Bryan

for you 3d folks out there:

[12:28 PM] Brought a Maya rep out who said that Maya Unlimited to OS X. This is big news as it finally makes the Mac platform feature compatible with Maya's other platforms (Windows, Linux, IRIX, and perhaps others).

From Macobserver:

"Myst Revelations (Myst 4?) to come to Mac. A Ubie Soft (sp?) rep is giving us a run through the game. She noted that Myst initially started off as a Mac-only game. Again, the crowd loves it.

Steve says he had lunch with Bill Gates recently, and that both he and Bill said that their companies' mutual relationships had never been better. The crowd applauded, and Steve said that the Mac Business Unit's products had never been better. He also noted that Borland was bringing its Java development IDE to OS X. "

personal note - I hate when he talks all lovey about Microsoft.

it's impossible to find them
it's easier to use google than use your hard disk
so we have to solve this
we solved this in itunes

this is called "spotlight"
you can ask for cmyk images, etc
it's automatic and supports standard formats and it's extensible
works with most current apps
this is integrated into the finder, address book mail and system preferences

Looks like they were real indeed.

system preferences has no favorites bar
they replaced it with a search window
let's say you want to change something with your keyboard, you just type it in and it selects the preference

in the menu bar in the upper right hand corner, there is a magnifying glass button
you can click on it and get a search field
you can search and get a popdown list of images, etc

potlight found something labeled as "halfdome" in a pdf
it indexes metadata, etc

BTW, I think the new Displays will be on apple.com soon.

The Apple store is offline right now, so after the keynote, I think they might have the new displays on there. Sweet if they do! I want to see em already!.
