Other - PS3 connected to the home ent. center.
Other- plain old CDs on the CD player connected to the home ent. center

Does listening to talk radio and enjoying the music features count as "listening to music"?

Does checking out a MySpace page and briefly running through the uploaded songs to get an idea of the band qualify as "listening to music"?

How about letting two or three songs run through before closing the page?

Does "listening to music" indicate a conscious decision to sit down and listen, or does it include background noise (home muzak, if you will)?

Not being smarmy; I merely find your phrasing extremely imprecise for what appears to be a research project of sorts, and impossible to answer.

Are you looking for data, or merely preliminary andecdotal chatter to give you a general sense of how to structure your project?

When I thought about it, I realized I listen to the radio mostly for news in the car. When working in the garage, I might have the radio on (10% of the time), otherwise I use my iPod for listening to most of my music most of the time most of the places (even at my desk at work). (I love my iPod soooo much.)

When I want to hear some NEW music, I tend to use iTune radio stations (Idobi, in particular) because if I hear something catchy, I instantly know the band and artist thanks to the iTunes display. I do not care for 95% of what is on the radio, unfortunately (I'm old).

Speaking of music, the new Green Day CD comes out tomorrow. Got that in my Amazon cart ($10 for a real CD).

PS: I didn't even realize CDs were not listed as an option. Shows you how I use them (rip to iTunes then shelve).

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

So it's come to this, has it? "Through the hi-fi" is classed as "other". What a sorry state of affairs.

ok sorry for been vague, as my research doesn't have to be spot on, its just used to back up an idea, as apposed to form an idea, the joys of doing a creative degree.

as far as defining listening to music, it would have to be whenever you have music on, weather it be ur main focus or not.

Myspace/youtube/spotify are classed as internet

if i havent quite covered your method or wanna be a bit more specific then feel free to post something, the more info the better

P.S. Just got the green day album on the DL, will put it on in a bit and see what its like

What happens if I want to listen to music on my stereo player, there doesn't seem to be an option for that.

irregardless of that omission, I listen to my music on my iPhone/Computer/Stereo and if I'm in my truck, on the radio.

Well, "other" now has 2 votes - 1 from me and from your post I guess the other is you...
...that's sad but compared to the "MP3 player" and "internet" option, "hi-fi" really seems to be "other" now!

But since I also listen to the computer through the hi-fi, I'm not sure if hi-fi is qualified as an extra option?

I listen to music on my iPhone while commuting and then listen on my computer when at work. When I'm at home I listen through my AppleTV.

I listen to my home stereo when I can, usually through the 360s connection to my computer or by hooking my iPod into an AUX jack. I guess I should've clicked 'other' as well but I only selected MP3 player and Computer because those are the only places I have music. I no longer have any CDs, Tapes, or otherwise.

With my ears.

har har...

I use my computer most of the time (mp3s), sometimes an iPhone (mp3s).

In a car I'll use the radio or XM.

Sirius in the car, my iPod (connected to the car stereo), or on one of my sound systems at home.

Now, if you want specifics about my home equipment, it could take some time.

I listen to my music about 70% of the time on my iPhone or iPod (hooked up to my car stereo with an aux cable while on the road). The other 30% is on the computer, often at work or while browsing at home.

I find new music through Last.fm or friends' recommendations.

I never listen to music on the radio.

I chose "other," though several options apply to me; I listen to local radio, to music from a variety of sources (my CDs, iTunes Store) on my iPods, sometimes even Internet Radio. But mostly I listen to music on my TV via Sirius/XM through DirecTV.

I usually listen to local radio when I'm in my car around town, and I have enough presets that I can dodge just about any ad or announcement-which I take advantage of. On the road I either play my iPod through the car's audio system or just talk with whomever it is I'm traveling with. But at home, more often than not, when I listen to music, it's satellite radio through the TV. Hope that helps.

iPhone and Zune - I just connect it to whatever (car head unit, home theatre receiver, iLuv, etc.).

I don't find new music very often. imeem.com has let me find some decent new stuff, but I haven't really gotten into any new music in ages.

I have a radio station I stream and a dutch tv website that streams full albums for a week or so. If I like something on either I go buy it.

The listening at home is done with the home media center/mac mini sendind tunes to powered speakers attached to an Airport Express.

Damn! Beat me to it. I voted "other". I listen to many types of media, from old cassettes I still have to live music. It all enters through my ears.

I don't know much about audio quality, but I know that the Bose system we have was waaay overpriced for what you get.
