I have a problem with Word documents from a customer. It is blank when opened in Office 2004 (both if I double-click on it and if I force it open in Word, by dragging it).
It is a .doc document, I don't know what version of Word it is created in, but if I open it in Word 2003 on windows, it shows everything, as it should.
Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks,
Peter

You could try opening it with TextEdit (yes, I'm serious).

Besides that, you could try some of the free programs:

AbiWord
ThinkFree

If none of those work, you might have to ask your customer to Save As... and make sure they select the correct version of Word.

Hi Chris

Forgot to mention it, but yes, I have tried TextEdit (still no content). I have also looked in the file with bbedit, and it do have content...

Save As doesn't change anything (except if they save to rtf or something)

However, AbiWord seems to open it correctly!?!

Hmm - content can then be read, but I'm still curious why Word won't do it.

Thanks,
Peter
