Prince Charles may have an issue with this but Apple has gone ahead and released the iPod nano which has a colour screen and a 1000 song capacity.

the black one looks sweet

thoughts?

Its Out...

One thing I don't like is the headphone jack in on the bottom next to the dock connector.
I'm not complaining...I'm going to buy the black one asap.

Brian.

Is the black a hint at the color of the new powerbooks?

Looks awesome... but... what happened to my mini!? I love the mini, and the 6 gig capacity was great... gota wonder if it just wasn't selling or... what? I thought the mini actually outsold the original iPod... I actually prefer the look of the mini to any other iPods...

I love the way it looks, but the price could be better. With the mini, you got more GB for your money. With that said, I think this is the coolest iPod yet.

Is the black a hint at the color of the new powerbooks?
I hope so. I really loved my black Wallstreet.

This thing looks amazing to me. It makes my 6g mini look so ugly. These are gonna sell like hotcakes. About that powerbook thing, I don't think there is any relationship, it's just to give a color choice.

The black one looks superb… but I don't like the name, what was wrong with the 'iPod mini' name?

Too bad there is no firewire. I have a PB G4 1ghz, and I don't have USB 2.0. :-(

So they killed the mini? Brave move, not expected by me anyway. If this is the 2/4Gb shuffle with a screen that has been rumbling around the rumour sites, I was expecting it to slot between the shuffle and a higher capacity mini. Anyone with a colour iPod got anything new in software update to get an update with the combination lock, world clock etc?

Just checked out the nano display specs: 1.5", 176x132 pixels (iPod photo is 2" 220x176 pixels). Nice little pice of kit really, definitely there as upgrade bait for shuffle owners.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

It's pretty cool looking (I like black!) but IMO a bit pricey. I'm sure it'll sell well, but I just expected something a bit more revolutionary than this. Next!

pricey because of the flash memory. I am also weary about the bottom headphone port, as well as ending the ipod mini lineup.

It just says USB. Does that mean 1 and 2? I hope so, cause I don't have USB 2 on my iMac. Yeah, it's a bit pricey, but it's beautiful.

It's USB2, but I presume that it's backwards compatible.

Is the 1GB iPod shuffle $129 or $149? Strange. Either way, the pricing for the iPod "nano" (uhg) is inline with the shuffle pricing, for the most part. Expensive, yeah.

Hey thinking about it, I seem to remember when Apple was a computer company that sold iPods, not the other way around.

Sure, I love my iPod but damn. Enough is enough.

It uses the same interface as all other iPods (other than 1G and Shuffles); I'm sure the (at extra cost) FW cable would work with it.

Nano is a stupid name, even if the iPod looks like a PADD now. Shuffle still has its place. I use it more as a USB drive than for music.

For years now I thought "how cool would it be, to have a ultra-thin WHITE iPod which holds about 4 GB for around $200"...

In Ferbruary I finally broke down...and bought a silver iPod mini. :brick

I LOVE my iPod mini!

I just ordered mine in white. I have a 40GB iPod Photo but wanted a smaller one for working out. I held off from buying the shuffle because I needed a screen. I'm glad that I waited. What's next the Flea?

So who bought an iPod mini yesterday??

This thing is nice, they have basically put the iPod photo functionality into this tiny thing for the price of a couple of shuffles.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

i guess the headphone jack on the bottom is because there is a lanyard accessory and when worn the ipod wouldn't be upside down.

i want one so badly.

Finally the iPod for me. The mini was close, but the HD wouldn't be happy if I let sit in my truck a day. The shuffle had no screen and 1GB is not enough storage. So now there is finally an iPod that fits my lifestyle and budget... and it even comes with a color screen.

Any chance someone will come out with a card reader so I can transfer my photos from my digital camera directly to the Nano? It would be a great combination for vacation!

Not according to the tech specs but it's possible that FW works as it has the same connector. We'll see.

It works with the Apple camera adapter. Peruse the Apple Store online.

The best iPod yet. I will be getting one. I just don't like that name... "nano"? I think something like iPod micro would have been better. Won't stop me from buying one, though.

Apple really tries hard to make my 20 GB 4G look heavy... How long will it take for competitors to catch up? I hope (and believe) the 4 GB nano will sell better than any other iPod before.

Good point. I'm sure the headphone jack wouldn't fit on top due to the display.

The more I look at, I just keep thinking that the other mp3 player makers must be sh!ting themselves right now. Watch Apple's share in this market rise even more. That thing is beautiful.

Wow!

When my 10G gen 2 one dies, this may be a strong contender to replace it.

I like how they advertise iTunes 5 when the link goes to the 4.x page...

Is the nano not compatible with FireWire? Or does it just not come with a FireWire connector?

It seems to use the same Dock Connector as the iPod mini.

If it is not compatible, this will be a deal-killer for me
