I tried the wireless guitar but didn't like it. I might just be used to the normal one, but the one I used was much louder, very clacky, and the fret buttons were backwards.

The neck was thicker making gripping uncomfortable and for some reason, it showed decent lag on my PS2.

Also, it raped my grandmother.

Why not just learn to play a real one?

That's like asking why you don't go drive a car instead of playing a racing game.
Or why play Madden.

Except you're spending as much on a game as you would on a real guitar.

Yeah, but the game doesn't play like a real guitar.

An electric guitar is only $80?

Edit: Madden costs more than a football.

We have two of the Redoctane wireless guitars and they work nicely. Better on Guitar Hero 2 on our PS2 than on Guitar Hero 1 though.

You can get a Strat knockoff for like $50 on eBay.

Yes, that doesn't stay in tune. That surely would make someone want to keep practicing...

FWIW I enjoy real guitar and Guitar Hero. The difference is that I beat every song on expert quite a while ago so GH lost its appeal. We get it out for parties but not besides that. On the other had, there's no limit to the songs I can learn on real guitar.

Why you play a racing game: Real race cars are expensive and dangerous.
Why you play Madden: It's logistically and physically difficult to set up a 22-person football game. You can't do it on a lark for a few minutes in the afternoon. You might get hurt.
Why you'd play Guitar Hero instead of learning the guitar:
- not because a real guitar is much more expensive
- not because a real guitar is dangerous
- not because you need 21 other people to agree to play the guitar
- not because a real guitar is too difficult to set up and play with for a few minutes when killing time.

So I give up -- why, exactly?

- learning real guitar is more difficult
- mastering real guitar requires more time
- real guitar isn't as interactive (unless you can get scored somehow)
- graphics aren't as good
- electric guitar + amp isn't more expensive than $80?
- I haven't seen a real guitar become an entertaining game for some people to take turns on at a party

I can understand why a real musician would not be interested in this game.

So everything I do for entertainment must inspire droves of women to come to my house?

Because you could spend three years practicing regularly and honing your skills, or take 15 minutes and sound the same. Also, the ability to have rated competitions is fun. But like I said, I play much more real guitar now.
