Exactly. Just make a rule and stick with it instead of adding all these little "well you can get around it if you do x" stuff.

Rob it's irrelevant. The point is, the new image resize feature is just a temp measure used until a mod can remove said over-sized image.
What you are doing is known as straw-maning.

Yes, but he has switched the argument over to that, as if it had any relevance as to why the feature even exists. Just let it drop.

Well maybe if someone'd admit that he would let it drop.

Most images that people link to are goofy images or visual aids from other websites that have already been formatted for the web, and are already a reasonable size. Do a Google image search and you'll see that the majority of hits are for images that are already formatted to a reasonable size.
This really isn't a significant issue. The number of responses in this thread is not directly proportional to the importance of this issue.
It must suck being a mod here when so many threads are picked apart in 20923409823 ways and you have to deal with everybody's hyper-sensitive little quirks and needs which frequently surface in the form of endless bickering. This is a lounge on the internet, I think that too many people take this space entirely too seriously, and that this attitude is justified by mods actually taking these sorts of requests seriously. Certainly the regulars here don't have Mac problems every day for all of these concerns to be devoted to the Mac subsections of this board.

Kevin, I asked what the point of this rule is if hte software resizes it, and someone said a page full of 3 meg pictures eats up their ram.... so it must be very relevant, at least to one poster here.

depends on what you mean by reasonable. LOTS of google images are waay too big for inline forum posting. I find myself downloading images, resizing them, and uploading them to my own server a lot because of this.

But besson's hyper-sensetive quirks are important, and should be practiced.

Maybe he meant 3megs worth of pictures? regardless I've been on pages that had loads of LARGE images on it. It loads awkward at first, all of the large images. Then at the end, when the page is fully loaded, it resizes them.
The resize feature is nice for a temp measure till the pic can be resized, or removed.

well, it seems that "the kev"s new signature is not within guidelines. your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to get "the kev" a new better signature that is both cool, and has a cat in it, or mentions a cat in some way shape or form.
this post will now self destruct due to the wrong type of plastic used

I wish there was some way of telling whether or not people see my white-font jokes. I mean, I could make them silver, but then finding them wouldn't be as satisfying.

Well its kind of obvious that people stop reading posts when the text ends. Why not use the spoiler tag? Otherwise nobody will realize you wrote more stuff if you made the font white.

That's why I use them sparingly. That and few of posts require a complete absence of clues of joking.
