This is really a complete misunderstanding of the soap metaphor and also prevalence within the story. Soap forms a key part of the main character's transition into Tyler; i.e. the burning of the hand and the act of stealing the human fat. It can also be seen as highly symbolic, as in the cleansing of the soul, washing away the conditioning of consumerism, its use in making the bombs, and also its ironic use because of its feminine connotations.

To dismiss its use as a piece of marketing is ridiculous. You want him to not 'look at the packaging' and to see the 'movie'; what do you want, icons that somehow represent metaphysical concepts such as masculinity without any reference to actual objects?

Get off your banana skin - it's showing you slipping up.
I've apologized to the artist for any misunderstanding
so go bite someone else's leg -

...and enjoy your pink icons where they arrive.

They're just icons, people! The artist had fun making them, end of story. This bickering is ridiculous. If you don't approve of the icons, don't download them. The end.

You should declare the relevence of icon to function. who cares if it makes sense to everyone, just name it...

fat waste = trash
Soap with the paper street wrapping = internal HD

Then release two forms like Dave Brasgallas' Matrix sets,
one iContainer and then the loose icons so people can customize themselves.
maybe that is too ambitious...

They look fantastic keep going

for inspiration, I love this one:

The catalogue was not IKEA. It was mocking IKEA with a made-up brand called "Furni" with an accent.

I'm not finished this one yet either! (are my icons ever finsihed?!!? :-)

but i'm going to bed shortly.. so i wanted to post this as it is..

I'm gonna add detail to the cover of the catalogue.

I'm quite pleased with this one so far.. Although, i'm still not sure about all the specular highlights onthe phone.

I don't know if i should keep posting previews like this. or if i should just wait untill they're finished.. or if i add a lot of them.

Anyway, worked on the cover of the Furni Catalogue, and on the File/folder tonight.

toyed with the idea of using it as an actuall system folder. and to do an "open" version too. I might come back to do that later i think.

i was hoping no one would think that.. :-)

the only reference material available about what his wallet looks like is SOOOO dark and blurry, and such it's really gonna be a hard icon to get "right".

I could make it all up... and to be honest, this is an important item in the film.. So i guess i'll have to find a way. :-)

We are all sure at this point you will figure something out

take an ID shot off the back of the door in the house where all the other IDs are hanging then swap the name...

just an idea - these are looking fantastic - love the biobag!

Good idea! I use this same technique. Many times, you can find an object in another part of the film. The shots in LOTR:FOTR of Bilbo's Red Book where someone is either actually writing in it or looking at it don't really give any details except the interior - but reviewing the film, I found several other places where you can get a reasonably clear look at it.

Good call, eyevaan!

BTW, Zyote, the icons look great - you are doing a terrific job! I love the folder icon.

Keep it up...

oo, thats a good idea! i forgot about that shot..

yeah, brads character takes the ID out of his wallet., there is a light shining through it, so you can see it partially, but not with any detail. I'll take another look at the film for that other scene with them on the wall :-)

yay!

i was considering having the folder lying down on the desk. instead of upright. but i realised the movie had it hanging most of the time on a wall, which kinda suits in with the apple HI Guidelines.. ie, on a desk, or on a shelf. So i went for the shelf approach. which i think worked okay.

only problem is it looks quite flat. and you cannot see the contents easily.

Also, if i do an "open" state for it, i have to use this image as a base. and somehow "open" it. should be difficult from this angle to make a noticeable difference.

yeah, the bomb icon got quite detailed.. but it's still somewhat consistant with the rest..

i think the bomb is my favourite so far... and maybe the simple soap (without the words on it, or the business card).. and also the Furni catalogue is quite nice too. Although i think i put too much shadow around the phone.

when i've done a few more, i'll go back and fix some of the original ones.

Soo.. what icon should i do tonight? raymond's wallet? or something else?

A couple of variations for the folder icon.. plus Raymond K Wessel's wallet and Drivers license and library card.

I was trying to put a gun there instead of the wallet, but it was too tricky drawing the gun in that perspective.GRRRR.

Alternates or additional to the "Hello I'm Bob" sticker
Hi I'm Corneleus (sp?)
and
I am Jack's... (this one I would leave like that so that you can insert anything you want.)

Slayer-X: Those are wicked suggestions!

Okay, i've done a few more icons now, but i will keep them secret untill the end. But I've been scowering through this thread for ideas posted by you all. And I'm gonna do my best to accomodate. :-)

But in order to get a few of the ideas mentioned here done in time, i'm gonna have to change the release date to Monday. so i can spend the weekend on these.

And i think it's important to get the release done right and have it complete.

*ducks from all the tomato's about to be thrown my way*

:-)
