I did a search and did. I did not see this topic. Pardon if I missed it.

I have the 2TB iCloud plan, does it make using Time Machine unnecessary? I noticed when I bought an 8TB USB 3.0 external drive and activated Time Machine, it would not complete the backup process until I excluded iCloud backup items.

Is anyone successfully using both Time Machine and iCloud?

iCloud is not a versioned backup. It is simply another storage location.

The two are not comparable.

iCloud is great for the data stored in the locations iCloud will sync. But it's not backup. Delete files and folders and (after 30 days) they are gone. TimeMachine will allow you to recover deleted files.

I haven't tried resetting Time Machine to backup iCloud items. As I mentioned in the OP, Time Machine would not complete a backup of iCloud items. Have you use them simultaneously?
