I ordered a BTO 867 on 7/20 with the following changes: CD-RW sted of the SuperDrive, 80 GB hard drive, SCSI card. Status as of 7/30 is "Being Assembled." As others who ordered BTO 867s have reported, I was told to expect delivery in 4-6 weeks. Maybe it is that 80GB hard drive, but I need space for my iMovies!

I also rung up MacMall the same evening and ordered a Griffin iMic, and 512 MB of KIngston memory for $89.95 (I hope NO ONE is ordering memory from Apple! What a ripoff!).

My vinyl album collection is awaiting its transfer to CD as soon as the QuickSilver arrives. I hope it isn't six weeks!
No hazmats

I received my free lexmark printer yesterday. I guess you get what you pay for. Seems like a very cheesy printer, but there is some hope for it; On the side of the box it says to see the website for drivers for OSX. At least some printer manufacturers think we should be able to print in OSX.

Still waiting on someone to say they've received a dp 800...

Oh the torture of waiting

Just for fun, I went to check the status of my dual G4 800. I didn't really think I'd see any status change for awhile. But when I checked, it had changed from "being reviewed" to "being assembled". I wonder how long it's going to take to be assembled? Will my dual 800 be ready for delivery by the end of the week? Hope it doesn't go back to "being reviewed".

I ordered mine on 26/7/2001, and modified the graphics card on 27/7/2001.

My dual G4 has a production number (being built according to Apple Sales Rep) and she said that they are looking at the second full week in August to ship.

Hey Marc N, when did you place your order? Also was it a BTO, just curious as to what kind of shipping time the rest of us can expect

BTO order just after the keynote from Apple Store. Hopefully she was guessing and it will be sooner.

I ordered a 867MHz QuickSilver a couple hours after the keynote on July 18th and I am as well still in the "Being assembled" stage, which by the way is ill-named. This status activates as soon as your credit card clears authorization and it won't move to the shipping status until the hardware physically shipped. So you can stay at this stage a LOOOONG time
Anyway, I called Apple this morning and a very knowledgable lady confirmed the 2 to 4 weeks estimate now for shipping the PowerMac. But this is a worst case number. Volume production will likely ramp up before then. She confirmed they haven't started volume production to date and the few people receiving already their web orders (867MHz) are just real lucky people

How do you know if your computer has moved to the "being assembled" status? Do they send an e-mail? I also ordered my 867 on the 18th but the status on the Apple Store shows "partially shipped" I have not received any e-mails saying my computer moved to "being assembled." Does this mean that there is a problem with my order, if it has never moved to being assembled?

Ordered a 867 with 733 options (i.e. no superdrive, small disk, ram, etc) the day of the keynote, and it arrived today via Fedex Two Day. Get ready, everyone! <grin>

Check the Apple Store web site and login with your itools account. You can review your order history from there. I ordered my dual 800 on July 17, and it's been in the "being assembled" status ever since a few hours after I ordered it. I never received an email letting me know the status had changed from "being reviewed." Apple will email you and snail mail you when it actually ships.

Sorry, I must not have explained it verry well. I know you can check the order status from Apple's page, but because my 17in display has already shiped the satus only shows "partially shiped" and wont give the individual status for my 867 BTO. Hope this clears up what I was trying to ask.

Looks like some people are receiving their 867's, but I don't think anyone will be receiving their dual 800's until at least the second full week of august, and that's being optimistic.

Yes, with multiple staggered shipments, you don't get individual status on the remaining items. You can consider them "Being assembled" however, or you can call Apple to get a more precise status update, as I did.

Ordered my G4 DP900 this morning, over the Internet, from the Apple Store (with the usual 5-7 week wait). This evening my order status sez it is "being assembled". So that is either very good news or a pacifying move by Apple (I doubt it takes 5-7 weeks to assemble one of these sweethearts).

My system looks like:
Power Mac G4 065-2839
Dual 800MHz PowerPC G4 065-3162
128MB SDRAM/1 DIMM 065-3001
80GB Ultra ATA-7200rpm 065-2916
250MB Zip drive 065-2957
SuperDrive 065-2918
NVIDIA GeForce2MX-Dual Support 065-2919
No Radeon PCI card 065-2348
No Ultra SCSI PCI card 065-1695
No Modem 065-1245
No AirPort Card 065-1899
Apple Pro Keyboard 065-3160
Mac OS 065-2837
Country kit Desktop 065-2838

Now I guess it's time to order a couple 512MB PC133 CL3 168-pin SDRAM 3-2-2 (32x8 based) SIMMS from Other World Computing ($75/ea).

Will move the 3 "extra" hard drives and controller from my current G4 450 to this system (I mostly do hobbist DV editing and Photoshop stuff as well as surfing the web).

Although I haven't experienced any difficulties (knock on formica) with my current configuration, I'm considering partitioning the primary drive on the DP800 to isolate all DV activity from all other activity (plus another partition for OS X). Have read the long and seemingly well-thoughtout article on partitioning referred to elsewhere on MacNN and was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts or comments??

I make my living in the Wintel environment and have that total set up in another room (best to keep these two puppies in different rooms...) so don't need to load up the G4 with any applications or activities that are better suited to the Wintel world.

Thanks for any good thinking on the partitioning issue.
G5 Dual, 12" Au PB, Nikon Coolscan IV ED, Epson 1200 scanner, Canon i950 printer; Sony GV-D900, Sony DCR-TRV900, Canon D60, Nikon 990, Canon S400 Yes, too much stuff

if u used an ATM card then u should check with your bank, their is a daily limit on ATM cards, i should know, 3 yrs ago i ordered a G3, apple would'nt process the order cause of the "daily" limit on the ATM card.

I guessing you mean July 20, since their were announced on July 18. I ordered mine (dual 800 CTO) on the 18th and I talked to Apple just a couple days ago they expect to ship duals about the 2nd full week in August. I hope by then if not before.

Quicksilver is shipping, since that is the name of the entire G4 Desktop line.

Woo Who! My free printer arrived! I think I will rub it like a genie lamp...maybe a computer will appear out of it!

Ordered was processed on July 25th, and my 867/DVD/CDRW G4 nor my Pro Speakers have shipped yet.

Hello everyone,

I ordered my quicksilver on 7/20 and still no sign. So I called up the apple store and asked them for more detailed status info (The website only said partially shipped because I had my monitor, speakers, printer, etc.). The Apple rep I spoke to said that everything in was in my box except for the 867 processor. Apparently Apple is waiting for another shipment of these puppies...although the sales rep wouldn't tell me when, exactly, these processors were shipping. So I guess it is more waiting for me.

I just got off the phone with an apple rep. She told me that I would be waiting until the end of August or the beginning of September before I would get it!!!!! ( I know that is between the 5-7 weeks since I ordered the day of the keynote) But this really sucks! I was hoping for a miracle and the computer would be here before I start school, but it looks like it's not going to happen!!!!

Ordered an Apple Store BTO 867 with a TwinView card over the phone on July 30th from Mygate. The man said 2-3 weeks, explaining that it takes so long because it's BTO.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I'm glad to know it's the processor that is holding our orders up, and not the hard drive. I think moto can deliver more 867's soon since they obviously can, since Bodhi has one. I can't wait for my order to go from asembly to shipped!

What about the DP 800's... Any news about them? I ordered one through "Education" and I wanted to know how things are going. I am writing this on my ThinkPad 560 since my 7300 broke (I don't know what happened) and I'm tired of using it. I hope we future-dp800 users get it soon I hope everyone get their machines soon......... [email protected]

Can anyone with connections inside Apple, find out when the next batch of 867MHz processors will arrive from Motorola? And also it would be nice to know when the machines will be getting the processors, and shipping? It would be nice to keeping hearing useful updates, since it seems the initial set of 867's have left Apple, and now the grape vine has dried up. I want some news about my 867! I can't wait any longer!

I was a little impatient and I went to apple's page to see if the wait time has changed. I found out that if you did not BTO a computer the wait for the Dual 800's is 15 days, while when I configured it the way I ordered my computer, It says "5-7 wks". Well see what happens

Order was processed on July 25th for a 867/Combo Drive, and it shipped August 3rd. Looks like the batch of processors came in!

A batch of processors came in!! Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!!! Looks like mine will ship on moday or sometime next week!. The only word I've heard from apple lately is that mine is "close to shipping." Which probably translate from "customer service language" to "It only needs a CPU." I can't wait. It should be here by friday if it ships monday.

If I were to buy that same machine I bought on the 21st, today, it would only be a 20 day wait. That must mean that Apple got some 867's. In fact I tried a lot of configurations and the 867 always had the same wait as the 733. Looks good huh?

I hope mine come this week, I really do!

Hey, I'd have to agree that a batch must have come in, because my 867 bto said that it shipped on 8/4! Not bad seeing as how I was preparing myself to wait for another week or two at least, but now it looks like I'll be playing with it in a few days, wahoo!

Just got confirmation today that my QS 867 shipped!!!

I ordered mine the day of the keynote, right after the AppleStore opened back up.

They're shipping it FedEx Ground, too.. interesting, since I requested UPS, but hey.. they're not charging me for it, so more power to 'em.

867/128mb/60gig/SuperDrive/GeForce 3

Can't wait until it gets here so I can finally hook all the goodies I've bought up to it.

Did any who got the 80GB hard drive with their machine, get shipment notice. I want to know if that new drive is holding up my order.

Yee-ha! Apple just sent an e-mail confirming shipment on 8/4 of my 867. Looks like these puppies are starting to move out. I ordered 7/20, so turnaround isn't too bad.

I, too, got Fed Ex ground shipping after requesting cheaper UPS. I think it's the result of Apple's guilty conscience for making us wait (that is, Steve misled us about the "immediate" availability of ther 867s).

For the record, my machine is an 867/128 with an 80 GB hard drive, CD-RW, and SCSI card. I plan to post the arrival date as well; it will be interesting to see how long it takes to get here. I guess I'll go set up the lawn chair on my front porch now...

I'm waiting for a Dual 800 so I don't want to dampen all you 867s who are not getting FedEx ground. I had my order shipped UPS Ground. My Rio came UPS, but my Printer came FedEx ground. When I first tracked my printer it was going to be 7 days (5 business). It told me the approximate delivery date on the fed ex tracking page. They were dead on. Actually, fedex ground arrives later here than UPS, 6:30pm on a Friday evening . I tried to change the carrier for the computer, but they wouldn't let me.

I guess the Dual 800 started to ship, at least it looks that way in Canada. There is a review of the Dual 800 by a Canadian user.

Kind of a bizzare review...more of a rant. I doubt this guy recieved one, he just found a convenient place to post his rant.

Where was the review of the dual-800 in that. All I saw was a rant on the twinview Nvidia card and a brief description of the G4 processor, if that. No review.

Still waiting for my dual-800.
