A bridge to Hawaii would be awesome. And it would only cost 2,500 Elvii.

I will concede that the consequences of the US getting its credit downgraded could be great. None of us can see the future, but there is always the possibility that things could go very wrong. I won't even speculate beyond that.

But, the fact is that the federal government has revenue and cash to last for several more months, so the August "default' date is disingenuous.

The real problem is that the government has become like a crack addict, willing to do ANYTHING to get another fix (this "debt limit" raise is akin to taking out a payday loan). And as soon as you try and take away that crack, he flips out and goes into withdrawal. That is why I agree with Boehner's initial small cutbacks in federal spending, and then hope to see some major progress in cutting spending in 2012.

It's pretty annoying when politicians exaggerate a crisis in order to get their way.

Interstate highways were originally the US equivalent of the Autobahn, and built for the same original purpose: allowing military mobilization throughout the nation. Including Hawaii. So while the "interstate" part of the name is sort of silly sounding, those roads are part of the overall system. Just as Alaska has "interstate" highways without Any physical connection to any other state.

Now if someone could come up with a road-like way to get people, goods and bulk materials like fuel and such to Hawaii, the state's entire economic system would have to change, and it wo uld be significantly less expensive to live there. But that Isn't really feasible, so the current situation is pretty much "set in stone"...or rather set in tectonic plate physics.

Why don't you wear your ruby red slippers and click on its heels and chant:

There are no wars. Reid is lying.
There are no wars. Reid is lying.
There are no wars. Reid is lying.

You mean the same fake/gimmick savings Republicans included in their budget proposals within the last year?
The same savings from from Ryan's plan?

Good overview of the Aug 2 deadline, spending priorities, economic impact, and how we got here:

Debt interactive: Countdown to the default deadline | The Newsroom - Yahoo! News

Reid's plan cuts more than Boehner's plan and includes no tax increase. Democrats already compromise on no tax increases.

Where do you get your 'facts'? Show us the numbers genius.

By most estimates, it's between Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 before the US runs out of money.
