I ran across this drive from newegg.com

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...133-004&DEPA=0

It sure looks like an oem version of the current 4x dvd-r superdrives for $140. 1x DVD-r recording is really tedious, especially when you need to make 2 or more copies.

And with 2x dvd-r media all but gone from the face of the planet, I am wondering who else is considering the upgrade of their 1x drives?

As far as I can tell, this is a stock panasonic/Matshita drive, just like the one Apple ships, except it's not crippled with the Apple firmware problems [ see example on today's Macintouch front page].

Should work fine without evening using Patchburn II.

You can check the xlr8yourmac.com database for related installs by others.
