So I've got an EyeHome now and it is pretty awesome.
Only problem is that I cant get the symlink to work that points to the movies on the external drive. Does anyone have advice regarding symlinks? I'm using SymbolicLinker 1.1v3 as seen on Macupdate. It makes the link, I put it where the default Movies folder should be - and the EyeHome sees all the movies, but just wont play any of them.

Any ideas? Please?

I just make an alias of all my movies in the movies folder.

You don't need that symlink workaround anymore. As said above, just use regular aliases. You will need to update your EyeHome firmware to the latest version before this will work. Also, your EyeHome software needs to be updated to the latest version.

I love this box!

*love for the box fading*

Well, appears as though the box is up to date. Aliases and symlinks just dont work. Maybe I am just doing something completely retarded - here is my process.

movies are stored like this: External FW drive/Movies/Pulp Fiction/Pulp Fiction.avi.

I right click on the Movies folder (on the external drive)and click Make Symlink. Then I drag the resulting Symlink to replace the Defualt Movies folder on my internal drive.

Then on the eyehome, I go to the Movies listing, and I can see all the movies. But when I click to play one, it says no files available.

I have tried storing them like this: FW Drive/Movies/Pulp Fiction.avi - then the eyehome doesnt even show me the list - the screen just goes gray.

When I create an alias the TV goes gray no matter how the movies are situated.

I know my problem lies directly with the link system because movies play perfectly when stored on the internal drive in the movies folder.

Any further advice is greatly appreciated

do this:

1) Open up the external drive where the movie is.
2) Open up the ~/movies folder on your internal drive
3) hold down option + pretzel and select the movie file and drag it over to the ~/movies folder

Alternately, you can right-click on the file and choose "make alias." Drag that alias over to the ~/movies folder.

Try it and get back to us.

no go. when I select "movies" on the eyehome, it says no files available.

I'm starting to think my box is bad. Why wont it read an alias?

Try leaving the alias in the ~/movies folder and restart the eyehome software AND the box.

If the firware update is in there, and the software is current, it's time to contact elgato Support. They have been very good are resolving issues I had getting EyeHome to work.

I'm interested in purchasing this device and was wondering if you would test something for me (if/when your box is fixed).

I have a bunch of MP4 files converted using handbrake. http://handbrake.m0k.org/

Current Settings:
Output format MP4 / MPE-4 video / AAC audio
Bitrate 2000 kbps

any idea?

I assume you can fast-forward, and rewind when watching movies through this thing.

Right?

I'm thinking about getting one of these.

Sure. Sometimes the FF and RW is a little sketchy, but it usually works fine for me. Really an amazing gadget if you have a lot of video/audio and want to run it through your TV/home theater.

Well, I just ordered mine... I'll see if the following settings work on it or if it's not what I thought it would be. I'll report back later.

Man, since Bitorrent came into my life, I'm loving my EyeHome more and more. I'm planning on building an entertainment center around mine in the next few months.

I stream HD divx (mpeg-4) files to my 32" HD set all the time. Looks like a friggin' DVD.
