I just bought a 20GB iPod last week from the online Apple store.

Would it be possible to return it somehow so I can get the new 20GB photo version later?

So, for the new 1GB shuffle prices: How come it costs 129 (119 education) in the US while it's only been reduced to 139 in Europe without any education rebate? Thought we had finally overcome the huge price gaps between US and other markets...

I have a 20GB 3G right now. I have never had a problem with it but I have almost filled it up. I picked up a 30GB photo in the Save/Special Deals section for $299. The increased storage space, color screen and battery life make it a good deal for me. For the same price as the new 20GB I get a little more

Now, I will have to find a buyer for my ole' 3G.

You should be able to return it and get the new one. You will have to pay the restocking fee (10% maybe) but I would say it would be worth it. If you don't mind keeping it they will give you a small refund.

This is the way it is with a Mac and I don't see any reason it would change with the iPod.

I think the 60 gb is the same size as the old one (Maybe new software only?) I compared the specs from the apple site to the specs on Amazon's site....

What the hell ever happened to the single platter 40gb drives?
Toshiba announced earlier this year that by 3rd quarter 2005 they would release a double platter 80gb and by the 2nd quarter a single platter 40gb giving us a sexy thin iPod Photos which would fit the gap between the 20 and 60 perfectly. Perhaps Apple is waiting until the 80gb is ready for mass production to bring the 40 back into the fold, allowing for nice evenly spaced out iPods: 20, 40, 80. Looks like I gotta wait!!! My 1G iPod's battery only lasts about 1 hour now
The only question now is WHEN... hopefully soon (Paris Expo soon), as this update was quite negligable.

did anyone else order one? when does your order page say it will ship? mine says on or before 7/6, but the order status is preparing shipment.

i paid for the fedex overnight. hopefully it will arrive this week, not next.

---edit---

just in case anyone cares, and because i am excited, it shipped from apple yesterday. it is on the fedex truck right now on the way to my house.
