After borrowing GH 1 from a friend a while back my roommates and I all decided to get GH 2 and another guitar, and it's a blast. I really like the added bass/rythym line, and the detailed stats and practice mode are really cool.
I beat the game tonight on expert...now I'm going for 5 stars in every song. Anyone else play?

Marty Friedman is the lead guitar god.

Yeah, I play it, but I'm not anywhere as good as you, apparently.

Don't have GH 2 yet. I loved GH 1 though. Hopefully I'll be getting 2 for Christmas.

You have to push the correct fret button/combination of buttons and strum at the same time. It easy to get the hang of it, the first time I ever played I got the high score at Wal-Mart
Multiplayer is really fun too.

The game + guitar is $80, an extra (official) guitar is $40. Both can be found cheaper on eBay.

Me too. If I still had my PS2 I would probably buy this game just because it is so much fun...so now I'm stuck waiting for the 360 version as well...which apparently, from rumors I've heard/read is in production, but no official announcement has been made (that I know of) so it looks like we're still months and months away at the soonest.

The 360 version HAS been officially announced, and it also has a unique guitar controller.

News Story and Picture of 360 Guitar

This is the one I'm waiting for too. And downloadable songs via XBox Live are a possibility! (Woo, woo!)

You're right, I knew it had been "announced" (as in we now one is coming)...what I meant to say is that it hasn't been "announced" (meaning details including features, release date, etc.)

That would be so awesome if downloadble tracks are available. It opens up so many new possibilities for the game. Instead of just having 15 (albeit freakin awesome!) tracks included, you could theoretically download any song you wish (assuming GH makes a huge library available) and play on your Xbox.

Great picture of the 360 guitar, I hadn't seen that before...I would bet all my money that the controller would be wireless, even though the picture caption asks whether it is or not. If it is wired, I think that would be the fatal mistake that keeps this game from taking off, becuase my 360 (and presumably many other 360 owners) have their 360 tucked away near their tv because of the wireless controllers, whereas with the PS2 you were always within 10 feet of it.

The wired controllers work well enough for us since they reach from the TV to the other side of the (dorm) room but we'll see what happens when we get a house next year.

And I agree that adding your own songs would just make it explode. While the 60 or so songs in GH2 are nice, I just don't think there are as many 'good' songs as GH1. I can only pick out a couple of songs I actually enjoy playing, and there are some I despised while I played ("Institutionalized" - Suicidal Tendencies).

Now I'm trying to imagine what they could do with the Wiimote...

No go on the wireless controller. I think the latest issue of Official XBox Magazine verified that the controller is indeed wired. I'm sure that there will be wireless options out there, but not the official guitar, evidently. It's not a big deal to me though.

Another note:

I wish they would make the 360 version a hybrid of Guitar Hero I and II, sort of like the Tony Hawk for XBox that came out with all the levels from THPS 1 and 2. It's not going to happen, of course, but a guy could wish.

I do miss some of the GH1 songs like "Godzilla," "Take Me Out," and "Stellar." "Sweet Child of Mine" has replaced "Stellar" as the song my roommates always play to see who's better. Here's my best playing "Stellar" on expert.

I'm also a big SRV fan though, so I loved Texas Flood being in GH. My favorites from the first...

Texas Flood
Even Rats
Bark at the Moon
Spanish Castle Magic
Take Me Out
Stellar

This is what GH has done for gaming geeks all across America. Taken from the IGN review for the wireless guitar from some third-party manufacturer.

But does your REAL Guitar make every note count x4 when you hit 40 notes in succession without screwing up and x8 when you tilt the neck up like a rock n' roll god?

That being said, I wish I was better at the guitar.

I play the drums, and if there was ever a drumming game as good as guitar hero for drumbs, I'd defienelty get it even though I play drums. Don't look at guitar hero as "oh sweet people who can't play guitar get to play", because it honestly has nothing to do with the basics of a real guitar. I bet that even though you are an expiereinced guitar player, you would still have great difficulty with this game and get to experience the joy and excitement that comes with it.

It is a great game no matter what instruments you play, but if you do play an instrument or have any musical knowledge, you will probably enjoy the game 10x more that someone with no musical background.

Actually if I was to list my roommates in the order of how well they play real guitar, it would be the in the same order as a list of how good we are at guitar hero. Coincidence? Possibly. But the dexterity gained from playing real guitar won't hurt guitar hero abilities. And anyone who has 'great difficulty' picking up guitar hero probably has 'great difficulty' in a lot of areas of life.

Arrrrrrrrgggghhhh!!!! That ain't Fire Alarm Red (which is actually more like orange, with a designation "FA").

But yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! Desert Sun Yellow! Gonna have to stump up for five or six of those bad boys.

(Doof is happy with this development. Can you tell? )

That's an "RF", not an "FA". Check the label - "RG550MXX_RF" (where the DSY one is "RG550MXX_DY". If it were a Fire Alarm Red one, it'd be "RG550MXX_FA".

Trust me, I'm looking at a Fire Alarm Red RG right now.

Still, I can get a few painted up (which would need to happen anyways, since I prefer the black headstock on the '89 era models). The big thing is original Edge and maple.

You can pick and practice any section of a song at 4 different speeds, detailed stats are shown at the end of each song, pointing out what % of notes you hit in each second, along with how many star power phrases you got and such, hammer-ons and pull-offs are much easier (a lifesaver in a lot of situations), I'm sure there are more but I never played career mode in GH1 so I'm not sure.

(Kevin and Doofy...I was kiddin!)

Niiice...

I knew about the easier hammer-ons and pull-offs (which really got me in the old title, especially Texas Flood), but I haven't had the full version of GH2, so I didn't know about the rest.

Oh, cool. We're back on topic. One thing I noticed, and this is a personal thing, the unlockable music on GH2 seems much better to me than in GH1.

I also like Monkey Wrench on GH2, and some of the other songs. Think if you don't have either one, get GH1, and when you're done with that, get 2. Does "Expert" seem harder to anyone else?
