My seven-year-old, stuck-on-iOS12, iPad Air got a security update today.
That's customer service

I wish Apple would make a statement on how long their devices are supported with security updates, because it is a big selling point versus Android and it is completely overlooked.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

To be fair, I think it totally depends on the severity of the security issue and whether it can be fixed in older devices or versions of the OS. As far as I have been able to tell, this fix was for a particularly nasty security issue.

I think it can be considered secure now. They are keeping iOS 12.x patched for security issues only, but I don't think they're leaving issues patched in there that they patch in iOS 14.x. iOS 12.x is supported all the way back to iPhone 5S and the original iPad Air. Older models have iOS 9 or 10 (depending on exact model), supporting back to iPhone 4S and all iPads but the original. That one seems to have dropped off support, it has been 18 months since the last patch, but still - they're supporting devices that came out while Steve Jobs was alive until 2019 at least.

I'm picturing you with a spikey necklace and a long braid as you sing that.

Another security update from Apple today for my creaky, old iPad. 12.5.5.

Android OEMs can and should do better. Especially when some of these devices are thousands of dollars.
