So I'm having a blast in Japan and taking lots of cool pictures, which made me think of starting a thread where we all could show off cool pictures from various trips we've taken recently.

Rules? Ummm.... it has to be from a recent trip. Thats about it. Maybe we should have a rule about nothing completely lame. But thats all in the interpretation. Probably we should have a limit on massive picture posts. Nothing extremely big.

Let me start it out with these pictures:

Great pics!

You should get a "Touring Japan" domain of some sort and host these pics.

Go all out. They are that good.

You should see the rest of them. A basic orgy of pictures. I do own completelyinsane.com but what would be a good domain for Japan pictures? Ideas?

Plus, how cool is it to have your own name as a domain? I keep telling my friends to do the same, but they are lame.

Those are nice pics. What camera, lens, filters, and film are you using? I can never get my pictures to look like that even if I use slide film or pro print film. Do you do any "enhancing" with Photoshop?

thanks. i mislabeled that one btw, it was from zion national park. that particular one was taken with a Canon D30, 50mm f/1.4 USM lens, circular polarizing filter of unknown origin. i shoot in RAW format so have the opportunity to tweak color balance, exposure, saturation, contrast etc. after the fact when converting. i didn't do anything too crazy with the roadtrip shots, however, mainly for lack of time (culling from 1800+ shots down to 60 takes some time in front of the computer on its own...).

i'd say that the polarizer and RAW format are the two key elements -- the polarizer gives the skies the rich look, and shooting in RAW lets you screw up slightly on exposure (and totally ignore white balance until later), which is key when the scene is high contrast.

From a recent trip to South Carolina. Using an old 2mp Olympus with no editing of any kind.
Oh, I also took this one, with the same camera, while driving home from work one day. Its on the highway heading north(ish) on I-94 just north of Chicago.

I spent a month studying ancient massage in Kathmandu, and then spent a month walking the Annapurna circuit and then up into the Annapurna sanctuary, then a couple of days decompressing in Pokhara.

Absolutely unbelievable, and a total dream come true.

Sounds fantastic (and very challenging!). The pics are great. I loved this bridge crossing:

This thread would have been 1000000000x better if you all had posted the pics inline.

Anyway, in the spirit of "best picture" and not "all my pics," if I had to pick one, this is probably my favorite pic from my trip this summer:

If only your image link worked. That'd be cool. Or something.

And 100000000x better is a stretch. Bad Xeo. Bad.

Lovely, MilkmanDan.
Here are two from rafting the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. It took us 15 years to work our way up the wait list for this trip. (You can go right away if you pay for a commercial trip, but we ran this trip ourselves)
