Mail.app and unread messages in folders

so Mail.app still doesn't show the red badge for new messages in folders overlayed on the Dock icon. I really hate using Mail Enhancer b/c it crashes so much.
Is there another way? Why does Apple overlook such a normal standard thing?

Are you sure?
It shows the badge for new messages that have been sorted into folders other than the inbox?
This was the case in 10.3 and it doesn't seem fixed.

No, it does not. Only email in the main inbox are badged in the dock. However, with the new smart mailboxes and the faster indexing, I've found it no longer necessary to divert mail to various mailboxes based on rules. Just my $0.02.

ok I tried Smart Folders
With Smart Folders, it only performs a search, rather than actually moving the messages out of my crowded inbox.
Which leaves me with a new problem.

sorry. misunderstood your statement. Shows the badge for inbox. I don't sort new messages to other folders, so I can't speak on your problem.

Here are other options:
1. Only use auto-sorting for messages you don't really want the badge for anyway, like mailing lists or amazon.com or whatever. The new mail sound still sounds, so you can hear when you get these mails, but think of the badge as how many "potentially important" mails you have.
2. Change your rules to apply only to messages that were received > 1 day ago. New mail will stay in your inbox. When you feel like cleaning out your inbox, do command-A to select all, then command-option-L to apply rules. The old messages will be filed into the appropriate place.
3. Pick up a Gmail invite or three, and have your various subfolder-mail sent to these addresses instead. This way they can still be counted in an inbox, but it will be a separate inbox. Also you'll never run out of room.

Why must I use backward workarounds for something that should be built in?
