Oh, man... I had forgotten about this one. I was really looking forward to it. So much so that I had to come out of lurk mode and mourn it. I've been looking everywhere for a nice pixel theme.

I've heard a lot of people state that Themepark isn't hard, it's just time consuming. I'd be willing to throw my hat into the ring to transfer the templates over. And no, this isn't some kid coming out of the woodwork. I've been working in design and digital video for quite a few years now.

If someone has the templates, and the people here don't mind getting the occasional question from me, I'd be happy to help finish the theme.

okay, here's the scoop:

the theme is on hold, it's not dead. furthermore, it would be great to get some help with themepark. i really don't have the time nor the patience to start doing all of it by myself.

there's a new macthemes contest coming up soon (so i've heard) in which i will be submitting an updated version of the mockup. i thought it would be a nice way to blow back a little life into this pixelated baby.

if you are interested in helping me, contact me (best chance you get is by coming over to the macthemes.net forums, cuz that's where i hang nowadays ).

cheers, ren.

I'm down, unless you're thinking waiting until the contest would be better for you. I'm PMing you my info. (I'll do the same over at mt.net, I just haven't joined up over there.

Okay, sorry for not responding to any of your comments, I;ve been busy for a long time. I'll be updating the psds in the next two weeks and I'll be probably doing the theme as a collab with Ice Spectre. So...

What colour variations would you guys like?

After quite some time I've decided to pick up my little project I first posted on MacNN... PixelJuice (credits to my fellow Dutch bastard Tom for co-creating the name). As you can see I've made some changes to the original design, for the better IMHO, but I'm open to suggestions. Making pixelart takes a shitload of time (you can't anti-alias ****, so you have to do everything with a 1-pixel sized brush) so it'll take a lil' while to finish up all the assets.

I might be doing a collab with Ice Spectre, if he's got the time. In the meantime I'll be posting my progress on MacThemes.

Cheers

Okay, I updated the bevels, toolbar button icons to make it a lil' flatter and more pixely. I also added a darker preview to show what dark hues might turn out to look like.

PS. Ice Spectre has already started working on a beta

Quite lovely!

However, you will run into massive problems with that menubar-font. IMHO not possible to hack a crisp pixelfont up there.

An update:

---IMAGE REMOVED---

Yay! Got a lil' time to to buttons, scrollbars and such. I'm not completely satisfied with it, but I thought I'd share my progress for some constructive feedback. My biggest concern are the progress bars, which have to look non-clickable but pixelly at the same time. Tell me what you think and thanks again for the great reactions!

@smithz4096: I think it is possible though, go to appearance in your system preferences, and select turn antialiasing off for fonts smaller than... Haven't tested it yet, but looks like that way it can be done.

Sure, it's technically possible to disable AA for small sizes. But that's not the real problem.

AFAIK The font that replaces Lucida Grande (as used in the Menus and at more places) will also be scaled.
If you want a font to be crisp and pixel-accurate in the Menubar it will appear crumbled at other places (where other sizes are used). That alone is sure some bit of fiddling. AFAIK internally there is no "Menubar-Font"-only, but a Lucida Grande which is used in various areas. It's a bit tough to explain for me now, my english lacks. I just have never seen a crisp pixelfont in the menubar of OS X, but would love to see it happen. I am curious about your next steps.

I wish you luck!

Can we see a mockup using Lucida Grande please? Just to get an idea of how it will really look?

So far it looks spiffy, I'm just concerned that once you take away the pixel font it's gonna lose some of that spiffiness.
