I've seen the gloss screens on PC laptops, and they LOOK much better from the front, which is where I'll be sitting, yes the side views stink in them, but I like the gloss a bit better. On the other hand, my answer wasn't compeletly honest since I already own a MBP and probably won't trade it in JUST to get the gloss screen.

I bought a 17" MacBookPro Saturday with a Matte screen. I have a week to return it so I'm going to find a store that has the glossy finish to see if I like it better.

Can't stand glossy screens, the glare drives me nuts. But I already have my matte screen MacBook Pro anyway.

I'm curious, and in the market (although I'm pretty sure I'm waiting for the Mermon chips this autumn).

Glare is pretty damn important (to me), and a glossy screen can either be bitchingly cool or horrifingly distracting. I'll be visiting the Apple Store and seeing how the screens look with outside light behind me, etc.

An interesting choice, though.

I went to a store and checked out Sony Viaos with glossy screens. I did not like it. Looked like cheap shiny plastic.

Pictures ALWAYS make the glare show more... Wait until you see one in person (preferably someone you know who is not in an Apple Store)

Those pictures are not from an Applestore and without a flash I don't see how it is worse.

hey,
with a glossy screen you can fix your hair AND surf the web, without having to leave your chair.

if this isn't progress, what is...?

(okay, i need to see these in person before i am sure about it...)

I like the glossy screens that the Sony Vaio laptops have, but I did not like the glossy screens other PC manufacturers had. Thus, I need to see it in person before making my choice...

currently not in the market for one, but i'm glad they're offering a choice of screens as i can see why it would turn some people off. i think it's nice, though i've read that pc notebook users that have xbrite-type screens have decreased visibility when using them outside in daylight.
