Wristwatch Review: The MOST...

It seems that wristwatch fashions change every few years and this thread is to help us take a look at some of the MOST notable styles.

The MOST expensive or the BIGGEST or the MOST beautiful or MOST strange or...

There is a watch style I saw recently which I think is absolutely God-awful. It is huge and garish looking to me.

Gevril Ave of Americas

Gevril Ave of Americas LE in Steel on Strap

http://turningtime.com/catalog/images/41_1.jpg

This one looks HUGE too and though it is like wearing a clock on the wrist, I can understand how it is important that it be big. When you look at the Bell and Ross site I think you will be impressed. One of their watches functions at an underwater depth of 11,000 meters. Bell & Ross Official Website

They make some serious time pieces.

Do you think they actually dropped it in the Mariana Trench? On, like, a really long fishing line?

Sub-question: how many times did they get halfway there and had to start again when a fish ate the watch??

Pretty good imagination and pretty funny, too.

The less imaginative and less funny answer is they used a hyperbaric chamber.

Imagining a grouper gobbling up a wristwatch is pretty comical.

I bet the rescue efforts would be nothing short of Discovery Channel-esque!

Check out these watches from a Japanese site. And for anyone wanting to go 'Super Fly' be sure to notice the watches from Pimp.

Yes. Pimp Watches to go with your ride that's been pimped and what you must wear with your pimp hat and pimp shoes.

Tokyoflash Japan: Browse Unique Japanese Watches

There are more selections at the link.

But a second glance at the Pimp Watches I think the name Pimp is really just wishful thinking and an homage of sorts by some geeky tech guys...or designed to ATTRACT geeky tech guys. The watches are techie cool. Not Pimp cool.

Sorry fellas.

Not a wristwatch but in the realm of time keeping, here is a neat online Alarm Clock.

Online Alarm Clock

Very Jack Bauer-ish. But the colors can be changed and what about the alarm sound? Not too bad. But would it wake you from a sound slumber?

I generally don't wear a wristwatch anymore, considering my phone has a clock on it.

Yeah...it's funny that you don't really hear anything about an "industry death," but watches now seem to be more of a piece of jewelry and less of an essential nowdays. Cell phones have really taken over the "what time is it?" market.

Odd. Never really thought about it before. I don't really know too many people at all who regularly wear a watch anymore.

I know.

But seriously...

Yes. They are stunningly, impressively simple. I really like the Phantom.

WatchingHorology: March 2007

And even though I know that for my purposes, any watch over $25.00 is basically going to do what I need it to do, I love looking at fine timepieces. And explain this to me. There is a site with a flash display of a Bell & Ross watch face which shows the correct time, just like any functional watch would. But there is something about it that makes it addicting to look at.

Check it out.

Watchuseek Watch Forums

To clarify: The linked image actually shows the correct time and the sweep second hand moves flawlessly.

Okay, I'm blind. Show exactly which post showed the price of the URWERK 201 series watch?

Are you referring to Peter's post "$20k?"

or maybe you may be referring to richwig83 post of 25000GBP for a Bell & Ross.

or maybe you may be referring to your post of $500 concerning the Movados that abe was talking about.

I thought the Movados was the top watch in your post, but I'm no expert on watches.

So tell me where is the price on this URWERK 201 that I carelessly missed?

d4nth3m4n post to me was out of line. There was NO need for him to criticize me for my request for a simple bit of information because of several cryptic posts that unless you follow up the chain carefully from one post to another, and then figure out that richwig83 was not talking about Bell & Ross watches but some other watch. richwig83 response was also included in abe's reply (5:23pm) about Bell & Ross (which is where I noticed his words about 25000GPB the first time and flew past his original post above thinking it was about Bell & Ross), so how could you be absolutely certain what richwig83 was referring too.

My point is, d4nth3m4n post was rude.

sorry to come off as harsh man, but having read the thread it was pretty clear. if nothing else it was something a 5 second google could have solved.

i know i shouldn't be ragging on the old forum folk, but your post was very "new-lounge". i'm losing patience for newbies. my bad.

Come on guys its only a watch, but if you read the thread then it does make perfect sense!!!!

So to clarify, I was referring to that Urwerk watch which is priced at 25,000GBP or aprox 50,000USD.

Gizmodo UK : Urwerk Hammerhead 201 Watch Just £25,000

Clear??? ;-)

macroy, that's correct. Each "stem" has three numbers and they rotate. The small "screwdriver" looking point also extends and retracts.

They also have this model which is a little simpler.

Citizen is forever indebted to gofridge, because gofridge's promise to buy a Citizen watch if the Giants defeated the evil Packers in the NFL Championship Game was the incentive that Eli Manning needed to win the game.

Nooka Zot V (in black)

Bought one last year. Get a lot of unsolicited compliments on it. (Who knew that a digital watch could look classy.)

I'm tempted to buy The District from Nixon, but I can't find a store that sells it. I like the way it looks on the Internet, but until I know how it looks on my wrist, I'm not letting go of the money required to purchase one.

And if I could justify spending a great deal of money on a watch that I would have trouble reading, I would buy this Movado Museum. (Yeah, you can save a lot of money by purchasing from an unauthorized retailer, but I'd rather not do that.)

Honestly, who needs a watch that can go to 11,000 meters underwater?

Sure, you'd be cursed to death by the underwater pressure, but your watch would still be telling time.

This is a watch similar to the one my brother got for Christmas, except the reverse side was crystal and you could see the innards of the watch. His was from the 1940s and it had the crystal on the reverse side because it's a special jeweler's watch for showing to customers (so they could see the inside working without taking the back off.)

It's really damn cool. My brother is the only person I know that actually uses his watch pocket in his jeans.

Yeah, it's nice. I found it at the Apple Store. I like the fact that it looks like a plain wrist band until you press one of the buttons or the time.
It controls the iPod nano with the Nike+ kit; which I use whenever I go running.

How do you tell time on that? I can usually crack the code of weird watches, but this one has a triangle of 9 dots and a rectangle of 10. Am i missing something?

edit: I'm talking to mdc, because apparently people can't follow this thread without quoting exactly whom you're talking to.
