Hi All,
A couple weeks ago I put in an online app to be a specialist (retail job) at an Apple store. I had my iPhone in another room, and just saw that I missed a call, I listened to the voicemail, which said: "This is *name* with technical resources, I looked over your resume and wanted to know if you are still interested in a job, I currently have a position with Apple computers that I wanted to speak to you about, under the MobileMe department at Apple." Goes on to say please call him back when I can if I'm interested, etc.

Before I call back, I want to know what to expect - I haven't used MobileMe extensively, and this doesn't sound like a job in retail(?). Can anyone tell me what I would be doing with this job? Thanks!

p.s. I don't mind that it's not a job in retail, if it isn't! I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect before I call him back.

Last I heard, Apple is looking for people to help redo the mobileme platform. Perhaps you put down that you have some tech help experience, and they want you to do online and or phone support for people using mobile me?

Or you could just call and ask...

Calling back and asking is probably the best idea before they move onto someone else.

Get in there!! Cloud based stuff is going to be the rage for a while, you could work on some interesting stuff. Ever do any storage work? Apple just bought 12 petabytes of disk.

You applied for a retail position. Like they're going to offer you a high paying engineering job. It's for a call person for telephone support/online support for MobileMe. Maybe even a work from home deal.

They're just trying to sell you an iPad2, I wouldn't call back.

That's what I'm guessing.

And technically the company was never called Apple Computers because there was no s in the old name.

Are you sure the job was for a retail position at a B&M Apple Store, or was it for the on-line Apple Store? Do you still have the job description?

If he applied to an Apple job listing on a public job site a poacher of that kind of info could be trying to fool people looking for jobs with Apple. But if he applied through Apple's internal website and got a call back, it would have to be some kind of legitimate response unless Apple has a major security problem. And we know that's possible because someone gained write access to the official iPhone unlock database for at least a while just recently.

Not necessarily. Could be rogue employees at any iPhone reseller or telco who has the ability to whitelist handsets. This is easier in countries where they already sell unlocked models. If Apple did not cross-check the IMEIs against, for example, an at&t-provided subscriber handset (IMEI) list, then it's no surprise the unlocks would go through.

But they need some kind of iTunes central database access because that's how the unlock was getting applied, right?

Not the sellers like cutyoursim, just some employees with access to do what they'd do for their own UK et al customers: add handsets to the whitelist. That does imply some sort of access to Apple's database, but I'm sure it's sandboxed.
