With the new hype Apple is throwing behind QT 6 and mpeg4, will we be allowed to play mp4 music files on the recently released iTunes 3 or on an iPod? It would be a shame if we couldn't.

itunes 3 encode MP4 -- not yet.

But you can use Quicktime player to transcode your audio files to MP4 today. I'd bet that when the iPod gets updated for MP4, so will iTunes.
