... for encoding the remaining assets.

I have an external FireWire drive with 104 GB free, and my start-up partition has 2.38 GB free.

The iDVD project status shows 3.37 of 4.40 GB processed.

My question is how to point iDVD to my free space, rather than having to put a bootable Mac OS X onto the external drive.

Wow, what a quiet day. Was it so nice and sunny everywhere else on the planet as it was here in San Francisco?

I'll halfway answer my own post, after trying several things. It seems that iDVD will only use the startup disk for swap, even though the project is on a huge drive with gobs of free space.

So I had to install Mac OS X onto my external FW drive. A really drain-bamaged solution. A specifier where swap ought to be (like Photoshop does) would be a nice thing, Apple.

That having been done I actually burned my first DVD and watching all the movie buttons and movie backgrounds churn is a thrill. Now to ship it off to friends and relatives...

ummm...couldnt you have just temporarily moved a couple of GB of files to your Firewire disk until you finished making your DVD?

No, actually, but thanks.

I have several "small" partitions, one for each version of the operating system I'm testing, and then one big partition for my data. And the external drive.

But iDVD seemingly wanted more room than would have been available had I wiped the start-up partition clean, so my choices were to install Mac OS X on the big partition or the external, so I chose the latter.

Thanks again, tho.
