I'm getting an Intuos tablet for my photography in Photoshop...
but are there any other applications that are more drawing/sketching-related that are relatively simple to learn and intuitive to use?

I found Corel Painter fairly easy to learn. The hard part was getting the tablet to do what I wanted it to.
