Hello. I'm learning to play the guitar and just tried hooking my electric guitar up to my Macbook with a .25" to 3.5mm adapter. As I was afraid, the levels of the guitar are way too low even with the levels cranked up.

From what I understand, a preamp may be my best bet to get some good recordings onto my computer. Would something like this ART Tube MP (http://tr.im/dm53) be what I need? I'm not looking to break the bank since I just started playing, instead I'm more just looking for something that will work.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

I have a HarmonyAudio that I use to record guitar and vocals into GarageBand, and it works beautifully. It was somewhat pricey for what you're looking for though. This should work just fine.
