I am not quite sure where this topic belongs if indeed it may already have been posted somewhere in these forums but over at

http://www.powerpage.org/cgi-bin/Web...powerpage.woa/

a little over half way down the page someone has found a way of installing Panther on a windows machine.

Although I am a definitive mac user, I imagine there are many mac users like myself that would consider a windows machine only because they are so much cheaper, although qualitiatively not as good as the mac platform

So is it true, or is this a stupid trick ?

Haven't read the article you're referring to, but currently the only way to run OS X on the x86 platform is to emulate it. Recently someone came up with a PowerPC emulator for x86 machines. It's very slow, and barely useablemuch worse than Virtual PC on mac, but the same concept.

This is somewhat old news though, so hence all the comments.

No this article is posted by someone with a recent Pentium and you may or may not be aware of open source software via source forge.

I doubt you could actually successfully run windows xp on anything older than a Pentium 3.

But it is interesting that no one has actually taken it seriously, although I am somewhat amused that no one seems to be into reading herein.

Here is his splash screen

Understatement of the day

It takes about 8-9 hours just installing the damn thing, then add about 15 minutes of the finder booting, and a couple of minutes just opening menus and windows

We have XP running on 233 MHz Pentium II's at work for compatability testing.

XP does this, so Windows users won't notice any difference in time...

Ugg. I remember reading about an emulator way back when 233Mhz P2's were just coming out. It ran System 7 decently enough to use it... OS X is a different beast though.

it is annoying when people post things that have already been discussed, but i gotta agree with you that people shouldn't be so cold just because someone else may not read every post or want to search before they post a topic.
