So I've pretty much decided to get one of the new retina iPad minis as a Christmas gift to myself. My first and only iPad is an iPad 3, which I like but has always seemed too heavy to use one-handed, and is generally a little too bulky to carry around as much as I'd like. I was tempted when the mini was first introduced, but the non-retina screen really turned me off, and I also wanted more storage than my current iPad's 64GB (I have a lot of photos, apps, and videos). The new version seems to have solved all of the drawbacks of the original model for me.
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out if there's any benefit to waiting for a discount or if I should just go ahead and order. I've read a lot of people saying that supply of the retina minis will be constrained for the immediate future, so I don't want to wait too long as it has to be here by Christmas at the latest. I know that Apple will sometimes give discounts on Black Friday, but apparently they didn't even discount the original mini last year, so the chances of them doing so with the retina mini seem remote. Target has a Black Friday deal for a $75 gift card with the purchase of "any iPad mini" but it's not clear if they intended that to cover the retina version, or if they would actually have the model I wanted in stock at that point (I'm guessing no). Any other possibilities?
