Hey all.

I am looking to either sell or trade the following;

iBook 500
DVD
640MB's of genuine Apple RAM <----
30GB IBM TravelStar Hard Drive. (Extremely quiet and fast!)
All original disks.
And AppleCare through May 25th, 2004!

The Hard Drive and RAM were both purchased from, and installed by an Apple authorized service center and therefor are covered under the AppleCare warranty!!! I also have the recipts for the purchase/work.

There is some cosmetic damage;

Two 1/2 inch scratches on the LCD in the bottom left corner of the screen, visible, but overlookable. (Other than this flaw, the LCD is beautiful, and without a single dead pixel.)
A marked up mouse clicker.
A very visible blemish on the right palm rest. (Most likely repairable with a touch up paint from the local hardware store, same goes for the mouse clicker.)

Other than these flaws, the machine is in perfect working order, and runs OS X extremely well. And with a 30GB HD and 640MB's or RAM, this machine is great for multimedia, and not bad for gaming either .

I would love to make a trade. If you have nice G4 tower (Digital Audio/Quicksilver) you would be interested in trading, please let me know. And if you have a cash offer, let me know too.

Thanks for looking.

Bad timing dude. New iBooks out today probably dropped the value of your iBook a bit. "If it weren't for bad luck......

Eh. Atleast the iBook update wasn't much.

And I have talked to Apple twice in the past week over the phone about the warranty. Both the people I talked to said the HD is covered under the AppleCare warranty.

(I never take one persons word.)

Anybody interested?

Alright.

I'll set a price of $1,350 OBO.
Or a 733 QS (Since they are going for about $1,250-1300 refurbished.) or a nice Digital Audio.

$1350 is a bit much for a 500MHz machine especially with the cosmetic damage that you mentioned. Trading up to a G4 733 isn't such a bad deal...for you You may be a little too optimistic about how much value your iBook has. Recent Ebay auctions for iBook 600/combo drive/20 gig/384 ram have gone for as little as $1050. Now with the new iBooks coming out, your price is going to have to drop even more.

I'll take it off your hands for $500
Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?

You're forgetting the AppleCare warranty and the climbing price of RAM.

I put up $1350, knowing that was the most I could squeeze. I will take the best reasonable offer... Malson.

I know it is tough to recover the value of the computer. Computers are just like cars...they depreciate rapidly. You may want to reconsider the price to around ~$1000 or so.

Yeah. Forget I said $1350, I was kind of in "Computer Resale Value Wonderland" when I said that.

It took me almost 4 months of work saving every penny I made to get this machine, so I am trying to get as much as I can back for it. I was looking to get a lil bit more than $1,000 for it, possibly closer to $1150ish...

I am hoping to get enough from this to get one of the refurbished 733's for $1,049 from Apple and maybe a set of pro-speakers or something.

I would. On eBay you can sometimes get more money than a brand new one! It seems like the people on eBay just like bidding and dont care what the price is.

Ok. I am on eBay, creating a sellers account, and it mentions a "sellers Fee"... WTF is that? I havent found a clear explanation of what it is and how much it is.

It has it's advantages

Just do the eBay, the fees should be nominal.

But what are the fees? I just got through dealing with my bank to get money back from a company that made unauthorized withdrawls from my account after I gave them permission for a "1" time withdrawl. So I am a little paranoid...

Is it just a monthly fee? How much?
Is it a percentage of the sale? What percent?

<Me> Waits for somebody with a nice G4/Cash to waltz into thread and make offer... </Me>

I am actually interested. I have a QS 733 that i might be willing to trade. I actually don't know about the whole thing. I like my tower and the tower has its advantages but so does the iBook. Let me know if you still are willing. It just doesn't seem kosher taking a cut in the processor speed and from a G4 to a G3. Maybe I can be convinced. It would probably require some additional compensation, though.

EBay fees are annoying but necessary. For the most basic auction, they start the cost at $0.30. If you set a minimum bid or make your auction a reserve price auction, you have to pay more (the fee is based on which ever amount is higher: reserved price or minimum bid)

Minimum Bid or Reserve Price (insertion fee)
$0.01 - $9.99 ($0.30)
$10.00 - $24.99 ($0.55)
$25.00 - $49.99 ($1.10)
$50.00 - 199.99 ($2.20)
$200.00 and up ($3.30)

Ok, now if you set up your auction as a reserve price auction (meaning you set a minimum price that you will sell at) there is an additional fee.

Reserve Price (Auction Fee)
$0.01 - $24.99 ($0.50)
$25.00 - $199.99 ($1.00)
$200 and up ($2.00)

Finally, there is the final value fee. This is where EBay gets a percentage of the item's cost. It works like this:

Closing Value (Final Value Fee)
$0 - $25 (5.25% of the closing value)
$25 - $1,000 (5.25% of the initial $25 (i.e. $1.31),
plus 2.75% of the remaining closing value balance.)
Over $1,000 (5.25% of the initial $25 (i.e.$1.31),
plus 2.75% of the initial $25-$1000 (i.e. $26.81),
plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance.)

So, eBay can be a bit expensive. Hope this helps explain a few of the fees involved.

One other thing, how are you going to accept payment for the iBook? If you use Paypal, they will charge you an additional 3% of the item's cost. If the iBook sells for $1000 and is payed for through Paypal, after eBay and Paypal fees you end up with $936.58. It is also against eBay's TOS to charge for the 3% Paypal fee in your auction. Just FYI.

P.S. - After reading all the posts, it seems my $500 is still the best offer. Apparently, you owe me an iBook

Heh, I just traded my 500 (O/Ced to 600) DVD, 320mb, 10gb, extra battery, etc for a Cube ($800)... I'd say with the RAM, HD & Applecare you could probably get $1000.

Yeah. I was hoping for $1,000 - $1,100.

If this wasn't the only object of any real value that I own, I would let it go for less.
