It's more along the lines of the High School Musical crowd. Wife likes it, and was furious when I said South Park is not only better at dealing with current issues, but has better musical numbers as well.

It makes a nice break from murder/mystery/cop shows, and it's funny. I'm still catching up on DVDs though so can't speak to anything current.

How I Met Your Mother would probably be a better solution.

I watched two episodes of Glee. Both fall into the same formula:

Choir teacher gets a hard-on for showtunes and lame mashups. He can't perform alone so he lives vicariously through his students.

Phys Ed teacher with a stick in her ass finds ways to bring him down.

Both go to the principal who threatens both, but whoops!, we can't have any disciplinary action or there's no show.

Rinse, repeat.

And what was with that PATHETIC Rocky Horror episode? The whole time I'm telling my kids "you can't do Rocky Horror in high school" and sure enough, the moral of the show was "you can't do Rocky Horror in high school". The episode watered down RH so much it was a pale version of itself.

Actually what I was referring to was a bunch of randoms covering songs that sound like they're being performed by a studio band coupled with 80s style choreographed dance numbers.

I mean, I could watch reality tv to take a break from murder/mystery/cop shows too, but I'm not gonna.

But then again, I'm one of those people who find Cirque de Soleil boring. Maybe when I'm old.

It depends on whether you watch Vild med dans or not. To do so would be a severe breach of being not gay in the not good way.

Watching Vild med dans would breach being straight in the bad way?

Hmm … so that would make me … ?!?

Well, anyway, no. I don’t watch Vild med dans (in fact I don’t watch TV at all). I’d rather gouge my eyes out. Well, almost. I’d rather blindfold myself and stick my fingers in my ears, at least.

(The fact that you so readily knew the Danish name of this show* makes me doubt your lack of not being straight in the not bad way)

Not gay in the not good gay way that isn't any good.
I'm making it up as I go along. I'll check the logic later.

It's me mum - she's an addict. I told her that her discussing this kind of thing would probably make me gay in the not good way but she doesn't listen and just rabbits on and on about it so I had to overdose on Italian showgirls just to make myself straight in the good way again. What a nightmare!

I stopped watching this season because it didn't really offer anything new over last season. The cast are talented though - they are able to sing. So, if you like musicals, then you'll like Glee. If you don't, then fine. Can't comment on the High School Musical cast - never seen it.

Since you mention the word "irony", do you not think that it's possible that shows like this are putting ideas in your head about "anti-gay bullying" and distorting your viewpoint to the extent that you perceive friendly banter as offensive? Just because you like wang doesn't give you some kind of anti-piss-taking pass over those who like fat chicks or those who like British birds.

I swear, North America is getting lamer by the day due to the MySpace generation watching "socially conscious" emo shows like this. Why's everyone so emo these days? Too much Green Day? Too much Oprah?

Which is inherently the construct of high school.

The Gays for some reason think its doubly serious when they are on the receiving end (ha). In reality it isn't any worse than what any kid who finds themselves in an out-group will endure but you can't expect a show by gays and for gays to miss out on the opportunity to draw attention to themselves. Homosexual teens committing suicide is this year's version of toddlers falling in wells. We'll have to wait for a new pandemic threat to replace it at the forefront of public concerns. Maybe Africanized bees or mad cow will become in vogue again.

I predict all this attention given to the subject will have the opposite effect than what the the politically correct wanted it to have.

Don't worry Salt. Dr Phil says, "it gets better."

I don't reckon it's the gays. It's the emo gays. Those prone to write bad poetry and whine like 12-year-old girls, or who've managed to get all the way through The Lion King without barfing. But "gay" isn't really a function in the psychology here, since there's plenty of straight emos all whining about the same type of thing. The definition of "bullying" (in all spheres) has gone from "physical abuse" and "ganging up to taunt" to "looked at me a bit funny and didn't compliment me on my new hairdo". I blame it all on Oprah - would never have happened had Jesse Ventura commandeered her chat show 15 years ago.

I'm sorry what part of 75% of gay teens don't feel safe (not comfortable, SAFE) at school, don't you understand? Yes high school is hell for everyone, but all of you ignorant ****tards don't seem to have a clue about how bad it tends to be for a disproportionate number of gay kids.

It's really sad when teenagers killing themselves because you, and people like you feel a need to have a right to be an asshole, doesn't bother you in the slightest. Maybe if it was someone you cared about you'd actually get a soul.

Don't get pissy. You asked for people's thoughts on the matter.

Oh, I understand your argument. I also understand the validity of that question.

Ask a group of fat kids what their level of comfort is in high school. Or as an Asian kid at a school that's predominantly African American how safe they feel there. As I said, any outgroup individual will feel ostracized and targeted in your average HS environment because that is the social dynamic of the place.

but all of you -clip the drama- don't seem to have a clue about how bad it tends to be for a disproportionate number of gay kids.
Jenny McCarthy was on TV not so long ago talking about the living hell she endured from being bullied. What was her torment about.. being too pretty. If one tends to relate to a specific situation such as you do about gay bullying one will use that perspective to convince themselves that their plight is worse than everyone elses'. It isn't. The "how bad" is a matter of each person's perspective.
To put it in terms you will relate to: Skip to the 4:50 mark

It's really sad when teenagers killing themselves because you, and people like you feel a need to have a right to be an asshole, doesn't bother you in the slightest.
Not even a tiny bit because you are assuming the causes for the suicide.
Take this as an example:

Justin Lacey graduated from Buchanan High School in 2009. Just recently, the 18-year-old started living as Chloe -- a transgender woman.
Chloe's family says overall, her peers accepted her for who she was. But, she was still terrified of being bullied for coming out. They say that's what led her to commit suicide.

He, yes he, was not suicidal because he was picked on. He killed himself because he was clearly mentally ill. Fear of persecution where none is present and in fact the person in question had the support of his peers means there was something deeper than his gayness going on.

The guy that jumped off a bridge was more than likely not driven there by being outed, since he didn't make much effort to hide the fact he was doing it with dudes in his room, but by the humiliation of the act of being broadcast to the campus via video. His roommate didn't seem motivated by some homophobia but rather by having to live with a dork.

A LOT of people kill themselves and it usually isn't reported. And only a tiny fraction of that is gay people who were bullied. I bet some of these deaths were copy cat suicides due to the amount of attention that the people who were initially reported on received. Someone already mentally ill who sees how much positive attention the other kid got is going to want the same thing. You, Glee, and all these celebrities are being self righteous with this movement. Focusing the attention on the gayness factor is stupid and self serving.

Do you know when would have been a more apt time to launch a giant campaign about bullying? April 21, 1999

Aren't people responsible for their own actions?

I've had it up to here with this bullying argument. Over the years I've seen people harassed and driven to suicide, but in the end, people are responsible for their OWN ACTIONS. Just recently, someone in my town killed themselves over his girlfriend breaking up with him. Now, should we have celebrities and marches against evil bitches?

What about that girl that killed herself over the harassment on Facebook? I didn't see any celebrities speaking out against bullying there.

I realize that gays have a tough time, but don't think for a minute that you get the right to blame others for these suicides. Yes, they're assholes, but there are ways to deal with it. There are many avenues available for help. If people CHOOSE not to reach out for help, that's not anyone else's fault but their own.

Is this an actual figure or are you taking dramatised fiction and believing it?
Because I once saw this Ferengi youth become really distressed when he had to choose between school or making his family happy.
