Open Disk Utility and fix your permissions.

My highly upgraded beige G4 use to boot up really slow....even after repairing disk permissions.
After downloading a program called PACIFIST and used the "update prebinding information" feature, my Mac now boots up very quickly.
I highly recommend using this free program to everyone.
PACIFIST can be found here: http://www.charlessoft.com/

Fiddlesticks. Nonsense. Snake oil. Placebo effect.

OS X 10.2 automatically updates prebinding -- the guy who wrote the original prebinding updater GUI app (Xoptimize, i think it was) said that he only wrote it as practice, not because ANYONE needs to run it.

Is it hanging on "configuring network time"? If so, go to the Date & Time system pref and ensure that "Use a network time server" is turned off.

Where in the boot sequence are you experiencing the slowdown?

Have you tried a verbose boot and watched which process is tying up your machine during boot?
