It's called Apple Garamond. It's Apple's version of Garamond Condensed.

It is the same as the font "Garamond Narrow" that came with some computers.

As far as I know, Apple Garamond is not a publically available typeface. It is for internal Apple use only.

Apple Garamond IS available publicly (whether its meant to be is another matter). I found it at some ftp site about a year ago. Since then I have had a HD crash in which I lost everything. I have looked for it several times lately and haven't found it again.
If I do find it, I'll post a copy.

Apple Garamond != Garamond Narrow | Garamond Condensed
It's a custom version of Garamond, designed on contract for Apple. And yes, there are copies floating around the net and none of you shall have access to mine.
And what is Garamond, anyway? Claude Garamond himself didn't even draw the face.

Claude Garamond did create the Garamond typeface. However, not every Garamond typeface you see today is based on his original designs. ITC Garamond is the most famous example of this.

Well, if they are not the same, they sure look really close!
I can see some small differences (look at the bottom of the m's), but I actually think that Garamond Narrow looks more like Apple's company font. Maybe that's because I got a leaked copy of Apple Garamond.
If it is legal to post one (or both) I will.

I have 2 folders of Apple Garramond fonts in my System Foder that I can e-mail to you if you would like.
Here's what I have:
AppleGaramond Screen, and
AppleGaramond TrueType.
I don't remember where I got it from, but it wasn't from off the Internet. I think I had it on my old PM 7200/90 and I copied it over to my iMac when I bought it about a year ago.

There are a whole bunch of different Garamond forms. My personal favorite is Adobe Garamond (its my favorite font, period). I have Garamond Narrow and ITC Garamond, too. ITC's Garamond page, http://www.itcfonts.com/itc/fonts/full/ITC6215.html has some history about the font.

I used to have Apple Garamond at work many many years back. At the time I thought it was just another version of Garamond (ITC, Adobe, etc.) and gave it no notice. In fact, I probably disabled it so as to not cause confusion.
If I only knew then what I know now...

Apple Garamond is not meant for public dissemination. I signed an NDA before I began freelancing for Apple back in the mid-90s; part of the NDA was for "property" -- that is, Apple's versions of Garamond, Helvetica Neue, etc.
MacAddict, in one of their first few issues, had an "expos" on how to mangle one of the commercial Garamond faces to closely approximate Apple Garamond.
peace,
Linda

I recall a few years ago Apple placed Apple Garamond (or perhaps it was Garamond Narrow) on their servers for public consumption. The agreement read similarly to the agreements they have for all their photos: you can use it for personal use, not for commercial.
That's where I got my copies, at least.
One should also note that Apple frequently uses Apple Garamond Bold, which doesn't look nearly the same as making Garamond Narrow [faux] bold.

Hey, Misha--
I learned something new today! I didn't realize they'd put it on their servers--in which case, I retract my militant protection of the font and stand corrected!
peace,
Linda

Apple Garamond (the whole typeface family) is available at the Apple Resource Library. You need to register with them, and it used to be that they would have to approve your membership before you could gain access.

So essentially, using the Apple Garamond font won't prompt jack-booted thugs to show up with a battering ram? I'm nothing if not cautious.
